By Margaret Davis 27 April 2013 02:00 PM
PR guru Max Clifford has vowed to clear his name after being charged with 11 counts of indecent assault against teenage girls.
The 70-year-old, famed for representing celebrities including Simon Cowell and Jade Goody, said he has been "living a 24/7 nightmare" since his arrest in December.
Clifford was charged with offences linked to girls aged from 14 to 19 between 1966 and 1985 and will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on May 28.
He was arrested as part of Operation Yewtree, the national police inquiry sparked by allegations of abuse against Jimmy Savile.
Clifford said: "The allegations in respect of which I have been charged are completely false and I have made this clear to the police during many, many hours of interviews.
"Nevertheless a decision has been taken to charge me with 11 offences involving seven women, the most recent of which is 28 years ago and the oldest 47 years ago.
"I have never indecently assaulted anyone in my life and this will become clear during the course of the proceedings."
Clifford has made a career of taking on some of the most talked-about celebrity stories in the last few decades.
He notably represented OJ Simpson and was behind the rumours that sparked the tabloid headline Freddie Starr Ate My Hamster

    Distress
Clifford added: "I am naturally disappointed about today's decision, particularly because of the distress it has caused my wife, Jo, my daughter, Louise, and all those close to me."
The Crown Prosecution Service found that there was insufficient evidence to bring charges in relation to three other allegations.
Alison Saunders, Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London, said: "Having completed our review, we have concluded that there is sufficient evidence and it is in the public interest for Mr Clifford to be charged with 11 offences of indecent assault relating to seven complainants."
The charges that Clifford faces are:
    One offence of indecent assault relating to a girl, aged 14, in 1966;
One offence of indecent assault relating to a woman, aged 18, in 1974/75.
Three offences of indecent assault relating to a girl, aged 15, in 1977/78.
One offence of indecent assault relating to a woman, aged 19, in 1978.
Two offences of indecent assault relating to a girl, aged 16 or 17, in 1981/82.
One offence of indecent assault relating to a woman, aged 19, in 1980/81.
Two offences of indecent assault relating to a woman, aged 18, in 1984/85.

What kind of evidence, 47 years after an alleged assault, would convince a juror beyond a reasonable doubt?

Its ridiculous, bringing charges after forty years, based on what exactly.

He is not a likeable character by any means, but I hope he walks from this charade of a case.

Be mindful that the first two cases brought against Gary Glitter were dropped, due to it being one person's word against another. He was first convicted, years later, with the evidence of computer photos.

And in fact the Police 'report' recently written about Jimmy Savile. None of it could be regarded as 'evidence' in a Court sense. Little more than a series of allegations.

So I expect this case against Clifford to fail. However, the reputational damage is done.

If the man is proven to have done wrong I hope he gets a lengthy jail term and a length up the rear from another wrongen at least!.

Last week or years ago guilty is guilty, let the jury decide.

Personally I always viewed the man as a parasite willing to spout whatever bollocks about his clients in order to reap reward, neither here nor there in this case.

This nonce has been protecting Celeb and toff nonces for decades; helping them evade attention and the police. Its a fair bet that he might think he will trade off all of his inside info for a suspended sentence but more likely, due to the shit he knows, his poor old ticker will give out in the not so distant future, or his light air craft will fall out of the sky.

I doubt she does that. She is handicapped.

Clifford has worked hard through his life raising money for charities supporting the handicapped. It is seldom mentioned in the Press.

Didn't someone famous do the same? Oh yeah, Jimmy Savile.

I did not say it makes him innocent, just that his daughter is unlikely to disown him.

Let us be mindful that ALL companies, institutions, celebrities have spindoctors. (The UK government employs half the PR officers in the UK - paid out of UK taxpayers money, to tell its own people at great cost, what a 'great job' it's doing)

It so happens that Clifford is high profile as he reps for celebrities.

Regrettably, virtually every story one reads in the media has the hand of a spindoctor somewhere in the sourcing. It's easy pickings for the journalist, and readers have unwittingly gotten used to it.

...whilst still getting in high dudgeon about the likes of Clifford !

I was just trying to indicate that time past isn't reason to drop a case against someone irrespective of the crime.

Then i'm wondering why the abused parties have waited forty years before seeking justice.

May be 40 years ago you couldn't apply for compensation from the 'Criminal Injuries Board'? Plus now the victim has the right to sue their abuser. If that's the right word? Perhaps we'll never know?

This parasite (perfect word!) has made a career selling the stories of sleazy slags from Southend and dirty Dorises from Dagenham, and stitching up a variety of celebs for their bedroom dalliances in the process.

Now that is what you call the chickens coming home to roost!

If it's not mentioned then how do you know about it? Savile did the same and was a good cover for his abuse, he even abused the handicapped and people in hospital. Clifford is scum and I hope he gets found guilty, the CPS do not bring 11 charges without pretty good evidence.
