Entertainer Rolf Harris named as British sex probe suspect
Veteran Australian-born entertainer Rolf Harris was on Friday named by media as one of the men questioned by British police investigating allegations of sexual abuse following the scandal involving former BBC DJ and presenter Jimmy Savile.
Harris, 83, was originally interviewed by detectives from Scotland Yard in November and was then arrested over the allegations on March 28 before being bailed until May
He has been a regular fixture on British TV for three decades and performed for Queen Elizabeth II at a concert to mark her Diamond Jubilee last year.
Harris had previously only been identified online, but he was named by The Sun newspaper on Friday and other news outlets followed suit.
He was held as part of the inquiry set up after hundreds of claims were made against Savile, although his arrest is unrelated to the late presenter.
The inquiry, called Operation Yewtree, was set up following the death of Savile in 2011, when hundreds of allegations of sex abuse, mainly of under-age girls, emerged.
London's Metropolitan Police did not name Harris after he was first questioned or following his arrest and have still not formally identified him in line with their policies.
There was no immediate comment from Harris's representatives.
