Covent Garden will be transformed into a mini Thailand

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is bringing the world-famous Songkran Festival to London this weekend, April 12th and 13th.

St Martins Courtyard in Covent Garden will be transformed into a mini Thailand, beautifully decorated with lanterns, water-themed features - including traditional blessings - and an array of Thai food inspired by Bangkok's famous street food culture.

Visitors will experience a truly Thai welcome, colourful and fun entertainment, relaxing spa massages and plenty of delicious Thai food and drink, including street food carts selling snacks and dishes by SUDA Thai restaurant and Thailand's very own refreshing beer Chang as well as Singha beer and Monsoon Valley Wine.

Plus, there will also be a chance to win a holiday for two to Thailand as well as other tasty prizes from Thai Taste.

Songkran Festival takes place in cities and villages across Thailand from April 13th - 15th each year commemorating the important role of water in Thai social, cultural and spiritual life.

Songkran is celebrated during the peak of the summer heat wave in Thailand and traditional festivities include the bathing of Buddha images - carried out at temples and homes across the country - and the sprinkling of water over elders. However, more modern celebrations involve large scale water fights.

And there will be plenty of pissed off people when they start chucking buckets of water over them especially as its colder than a polar bears arsehole over there at the moment !

Will they also have drunks behind the wheels of unroadworthy pick-up trucks careering into the crowds, spilling their equally drunk passengers in bloody heaps on the pavement? Just asking, like.

Tut Tut Tut, it is all about raising money for the Temple and Monks. We have one locally on Sunday,no water thrown,but orange buckets for sale that get taken out the back and brought back to be resold. Like most Husbands I went to the first ones and now find excusses to drop the Family off and pick them up later. Festival for New Husbands.
