Immigrants could be forced to pay a cash bond to enter Britain

Immigrants could be forced to pay a cash bond to enter Britain, to ensure they leave when their visa expires

    • Will pay ‘entry fee’ to guarantee that they will not be a burden on taxpayers
    • Cash would be repaid but only if they have not drawn on services
    • Those already in UK, would be required to put up a sum into 'thousands'

Immigrants would have to put up a cash bond to enter Britain under radical reforms to be unveiled by Theresa May.
They will be required to pay the ‘entry fee’ as part of a guarantee that they will not be a burden on taxpayers and will leave when their visa expires.
The cash would be repaid when migrants leave, but only if they demonstrate that they have not drawn on services, such as non-urgent NHS care or other elements of the welfare state.

The Home Secretary, who has already cut the number of migrants coming to Britain to its lowest level for almost a decade, wants ‘immigration bonds’ to be the next stage of reforms.
Sources say she hopes to announce a pilot scheme, targeted at ‘high-risk’ individuals from ‘two or three’ countries, starting later this year.
Migrants, or family members already in the UK, would be required to put up a sum running into thousands of pounds.
The 1999 Immigration & Asylum Act gave the Government the right to demand such a financial security from temporary migrants, which can be forfeited if they fail to leave after the expiry of their visa.

However, Mrs May’s bonds would only apply to non-EU migrants, otherwise they would fall foul of European rights to free movement.
The proposals emerged amid Labour attempts to shift its position on immigration, with the party admitting that it should have been more ‘ready to talk about problems’ in the system, adding: ‘That needs to change.’
Last week, official figures showed that the Government’s squeeze on entrants from outside the EU has succeeded in pushing immigration into Britain to its lowest level in nearly a decade.
The number coming to live in Britain fell by 74,000 in the 12 months to June last year as curbs on students and workers from outside Europe began to bite

So in other words, the idea will be pretty ineffectual .

However, if you want to take your girlfriend for a 6 month trip to the U.K. you might have to dig even deeper into your wallet.

The idea of the bond was first enshrined in the 1999 Act which was very much an enabling piece of legislation. It's implementation was considered unworkable and forgotten. May is simply pandering to the hawkish right of the party not noted for their intelligence but in truth it seems she is proposing only 2 - 3 problem nationalities should be included in what is mooted as a pilot scheme i.e. Nigerians, Pakis, Indian and possibly Jamaicans. This is of course fraught with problems in that it is quite demonstrably discriminatory based on ethnicity.
It'll crash and burn like all the stupid Tory fuck ups.
Furthermore it is aimed at only family visits. Thus, folk posing as tourists will get an easier ride over those visiting their kin. Is that fair?
The point is, Britain makes it easy for illegals to work and gain benefits. If they simply introduced draconian penalties for employers recruiting illegals instead of the current pussy fines, I have in mind mandatory imprisonment and unlimited fines, the economic imperative driving illegal migration would wither and die.

Just a load of Tory pondering to the masses clouded with smoke bollox .

Will not make one iota of difference to the problem here ,, the problem is the EU lot piling in , that they can do sweet FA about.

This has come about as a direct result of the UKIP vote in the Eastliegh election just gone by

Too late. My neighbourhood (a small corner of England) is already over run with Romanian and Bulgarian families with 4 to 6 kids living on benefits. Forget about the end of the year, they are here already.
Picking on overstayers and visitors from non EU countries does not fool us that they are the problem, the big problem is already here.

Something that the smalltown racists on this site somehow fail to appreciate - even when betrothing themselves to Buriram tarts after a jolly holiday in pattaya.

    ''small time racists '' ?
in your politically correct lingo , i guess that means people who see a good immigration policy as one where the wives of indigenous citizens can gain entry , but not 500.000 a year, of the worlds worst scum .

Also Britain has a economy that was based on very high and ever rising house
prices , now its a house of cards , let the prices find thier proper lever and the economic adjustment will be very painful for many , to stop this happening the government lets in half a million a year, while making sure hardly any houses are built .
So how will Britain be in 10 years ?
an even more over crowded shithole

The new trick pulled out of the hat,in order to stimulate the housing market is. Council and social housing tenants are literally now been sent letters telling them how many spare rooms they have in their rented homes.e.g Many single occupants of 2 bedroom flats are being told that as one room is unoccupied, their rent payed for by government is going to be cut. Solution ,Move into a 1 bedroom home.
Long term social tenants are going to forced to move out of social housing if they have spare rooms.
What the government does not state,is they need to house all these new E.U families who have shot to the top of the housing list as priority.
Brits move out of your council home to make way for the new settlers.
Maybe This should be discussed in a new thread.

If only the policy were as good as that.

But it can't be - all immigrants get tarred with the same brush as soon as the Daily Mail gets on a crusade.

That said, Britain is an advanced civilization when it comes to multiculturalism. It handles ethnic minorities with some class (far better than other countries). Thats why people don't yell 'Pattaya slut' at our wives down Sidmouth High Street.

I believe one can be arrested for comments like that in the UK.

The Asian family should have been in bed if it was night club time ,
and what WERE they looking at ?
We all get ill now and then and if I see anyone vomiting I have the good manners and empathy to look away . As you say it went on for sometime ,so the immigrant family must have been stood staring for a long while .

Perhaps he wasn't drunk at all , but he too ate in Indian dining establishment.
