British couple to be deported from Australia for living in wrong suburb

A British couple is facing deportation from Australia after settling in a suburb less than three miles from the area where they were supposed to live.

George and Lana Breen live in a suburb south of the city of Brisbane

    10:11AM GMT 21 Feb 2013

George and Lana Breen, from Dundee in Scotland, had a visa which required them to live in a regional area but accidentally moved to a suburb which – they discovered – was deemed to be in a city. They have lived in Australia for five years but are due to be deported on March 7.

"We've made an awful lot of friends here and to be sent home I think it's a bit of a disgrace", Mr Breen, a bricklayer, told Channel Seven.

The couple, who live in a suburb south of the city of Brisbane, discovered they were living in the wrong zone under immigration laws when they applied for permanent residency two years ago. They received their visa under a government scheme to lure migrants to regional areas.

But Mr and Mrs Breen moved to the suburb of Calamvale, 2.49 miles from Browns Plains, where they were supposed to live.

A spokesman for the Immigration Department said: "Their particular visa applies to those working and residing in regional Australia and of course regional Australia is determined in our case by postcodes".

Mrs Breen, a disability care worker, said the couple moved to the wrong place accidentally and had been unable to find a home in their selected area.

"When we heard from the Immigration that we'd broken the conditions of the visa we were shattered", she said.
The couple reportedly lost an appeal to the Migration Review Tribunal and are due to be deported to Britain on March 7.
"We work hard, we've put in a lot of money, we've set up home here, we've got vehicles and this is home", said Mr Breen.
Ian Mulvey, whose disabled son has been cared for by Mrs Breen for three years, told Channel Seven: "She's just made a significant difference to his life. The Australian adage, give someone a fair go, that just got blown out of the water with all this."

They where incredibly lucky to be given residency in Australia in the first place and then they break the rules of there Visa ????

No story here, just another couple of muppets trying to fuk the system over.

Besides that, Scotland has some very nice deep fried mars bars. They will like them.

If that is the only problem then why not give them a fine and extend there conditions for the time they were not in the stipulated area. They should have got the nimby lawyers that get most of the 'poor fisherman' that deliver the boat people @ $5000+ per person off. Mark

Seems a bit mean kicking them out when they have got vehicles .

I think Australia's problem is they have taken too many 3rd world monkies , so now they don't have room for decent immigrants from the west

I think the U.K government should protest vigorously for them in the hope they can stay in Australia. If this protest is ignored round up 100 Australians in the U.K and deport them in retaliation for what seems unfair immigration regulations.

Seems strange that a UK national can be deported from a dominion of the UK.

If they couldn't find a house to rent in Browns Plains then they deserve to be deported for being fucking idiots.

I don't blame them for not wanting to come back to UK
bricklayer jobs are hard to find in Britain then only pay about £11( $16 Aussie) an hour , while care worker get £6 to £7 ($10).

    They foked that up.

That is just a suburb of brisbane 2 minutes from the M2.

Regional migration means go and live in some shitty regional town and contribute to the available skills pool for 5 years and then they will give you a PR - not set up in a suburb of brisbane.

They are no spring chickens by the photo so a shot at Aussie PR is not to be be pissed up the wall so easily.
