    Iran 'sends monkey into space'

Iran's defence minister says the country has successfully sent a monkey into space, paving the way for a manned space flight.

Arabic-language channel Al-Alam and other Iranian news agencies said the monkey returned alive after travelling in a capsule to an altitude of 120 kilometres for a sub-orbital flight.

"This success is the first step towards man conquering the space and it paves the way for other moves," Ahmad Vahidi told state television.

He said the process of putting a human into space would be a lengthy one.

"Today's successful launch follows previous successes we had in launching (space) probes with other living creatures (on board)," he said.

Doesn't look too enthusiastic does he

I didn't think they had monkey's in Iran so what nationality is the monkey?

Could be a trained spy monkey watching the infidels through a pair of binoculars.

Thought this was about a Somchai in space...

Dont really see the need to send actual animals now, surely all relevant parameters (pressure, gas mixture) can be accurate measured by instruments?

I think ImADinnerJacket is a moonlanding sceptic.

Actually I am not sure that that monkey really is in space.

They could have just taped it down to make it look like if it wasn't taped down it would be floating around all weightless and stuff but actually it wouldn't cause it's not really in space it's in a TV studio. Geez these guys are amateurs. They should get Stanley Kubrick in to help with the FX.

I think it is not labeled 8. It is a 7-segment display.

And yes, it would not now be necessary to send animals. That was done at a time when it was not clear that the human body could function under zero g. But probably that small monkey is all they could lift even on a sub-orbital flight, if they did it at all. Which I too doubt but it could be possible, if they keep trying until they succeed.
And from my standpoint they can do as many tries with humans. I am sure they will have plenty of voluteers from their republican guards.

So Mao was not banned. The Iranians just borrowed him for their space experiments.

Look at his widdle face, not enjoying it much is he. Poor widdle Mao.

Ahmadonkeyshagger is also a Holocaust denier. Shame that the "Thunderbirds" creator Gerry Anderson died recently. He could have done a great job for their space project, probably on a shoestring budget as well..

Is Iran's space monkey a fake?

Looks like my conspiracy theory suspicions of a fake money launch are bearing fruit...

    -=-=-=-=-=-=

Is Iran's space monkey a fake?

Tehran chalked up a victory against its Western detractors this week by presenting - with considerable fanfare - its first simian space traveller.

Iran claimed to be one small monkey step away from manned space flight.

In Israel, there was concern that Monday’s apparently successful rocket launch proved Iran had overcome crippling international sanctions to develop advanced technology that could be used to power nuclear warheads.

But the fear has since subsided with the release of images from a press conference billed as a hero’s welcome for Iran’s first monkey astronaut.

The monkey triumphantly presented to the nation’s media in his own silk tuxedo appeared markedly different to the creature that was picture strapped into a rocked prior to its launch into space.

That animal had light fur and a distinctive red mole over its right eye. But the monkey that returned was dark haired and had no mole.

“It looks like a very different monkey, the nose, the features, everything is different,” said Yariv Bash, founder and CEO of Space Israel, a non profit organisation working to send an unmanned Israel space ship to the moon.

“This means that either the original monkey died from a heart attack after the rocket landed or that the experiment didn’t go that well,” Mr Bash concluded

Dismissing as remote the possibility that space flight had a dramatic physical affect on the Iranian monkey, international observers have concluded that either the original animal died in space or that the launch – timed to coincide with the 34th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution - simply never took place.

Perhaps it's all a big distraction as they dig bunkers and hide their weapons waiting for the US to invade them?

The next Iranian monkey in space?

Ahmadinejad says he's 'ready' to be first Iranian in space after monkey launch

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said he's ready for space travel.

One week after Iran claimed to have successfully sent a monkey on a round trip to space, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told scientists that he's prepared to be part of Iran's first manned space flight.
"I am ready to be the first human to be sent to space by Iranian scientists," Ahmadinejad told a group of scientists in Tehran, according to The Guardian.
"Sending living things into space is the result of Iranian efforts and the dedication of thousands of Iranian scientists," he said.
According to Mashable, Anousheh Ansari was actually the first Iranian in space. She visited the International Space Station in 2006 on a $20 million trip aboard the Russian Soyuz rocket.
Last week, Iran celebrated the return of "Pishgam," meaning "Pioneer" in Farsi. State media claimed that Pishgam had taken a suborbital flight 72 miles into space before returning safely to earth, raising international concerns that Iran could use the same technology to launch missiles.
The U.S., however, has questioned whether the space flight actually took place, while some observers pointed out that before-and-after photographs of the event actually show different monkeys.
According to the New York Times, an Iranian space agency official admitted that two different monkeys were shown, explaining that state media reports accidentally aired an image of the wrong monkey in photos taken before the launch. He said that five monkeys were trained for the role, but only one was chosen for the mission.
Here's a video report on the space monkey launch from Press TV, Iran's government-run news channel.

"So Ahmadinejad wants to be first Iranian in space - wasn't he just there last week?" Sen. John McCain joked over Twitter.

Interesting news article ENT ,it would appear that there is some doubt about the monkey being successfully launched into space and back ,of course if they launched Averdinnerjacket one way now that would be a scoop eh!,

"might make a noise and vibrate if you put 20 cents in"

fake rockets . . . now a dodgy jet fighter

Iran's new stealth fighter jet under fire from critics

    February 7, 2013

Fresh from controversy over a suspicious space-faring monkey, Iran is now under fire over a suspect stealth fighter jet breakthrough that one Australian defence analyst said "looks like it might make a noise and vibrate if you put 20 cents in".

Unveiling the Qaher F313 (Dominant F313) earlier this month, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad described it as "among the most advanced fighter jets in the world" with features including the ability to evade detection by radar and hit both ground and air targets.

Aviation experts have questioned whether the jet shown can even fly as it was too small to accommodate a real pilot and the controls and wiring looked too simple. It also lacked the bolts and rivets found on all aircraft and offered wonky aerodynamics.

"It looks like the Iranians dumped some rudimentary flight controls and an ejection seat into a shell moulded in what they thought were stealthy angles," wrote Foreign Policy.

Andrew Davies, senior defence analyst and director of research at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, said the jet was a "laughable fake".

"It looks like it might make a noise and vibrate if you put 20 cents in," he told Fairfax Media.

"I can see (almost) how North Korea gets away with transparent nonsense due to isolation, but Iran has a population that's much more switched on and connected, at least in the cities.

"I guess a possible explanation is that it plays well in the provinces, where people aren't as savvy."

Iranian state television did not show the jet take off or land but did show pictures of it purportedly flying – although some suspected it was just a remote-controlled aircraft depicted. The country has reportedly struggled to upgrade its fleet since the 1980s due to tight sanctions.

In November last year Iran showed off a new drone design, but it was later revealed that the photographs it released were ripped off from a Japanese university and doctored.
