Police are looking for a man who "upskirted" a woman on an escalator at a shopping centre in Melbourne's outer north last week.

Officers have been told that the victim, aged 26, was shopping last Friday about 6pm when a man she did not know approached her in a Greensborough shopping centre.

The victim got onto the first-floor escalator, and near the second level, felt a breeze on the back of her legs, a police spokeswoman said.

The woman thought her skirt had blown up and turned to pull it down. She noticed the man standing close by with a mobile phone in his hand. He quickly pushed past her and walked off the escalator.

Police believe the man used the mobile phone to film under the woman's clothes.

He is believed to be aged between his late 20s and early 30s, about 180 centimetres tall with a shaved head. At the time, he was wearing an orange fluorescent vest.

Greensborough police want to hear from any witnesses, particularly a man who they believe saw what happened from a nearby shoe shop.

Anyone with any information is asked to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Quite correct Mozzie ,I know this for sure Cos an Aussie who has just left here after a months holiday wore his fluro jacket all the time on his hire Motorcycle , having not seen one here in Buriram before, I inquired as to where he got his from cos I thought they was a good idea when out at night ,he informed me that they was compulsory in many jobs due to the Aussie health and safety regulations . having said that I think the whole story is a load of bollocks! ,maybe she was just craving attention !.

This guy is an amateur. Mobile phone cams have a hard wired shutter noise that cannot be disabled. Better to go with a quality compact with f/2.0. A larger sensor interchangeable lens camera will have better low light quality still and the Nikon J series is one of the smallest of this category. Most of these MILC cameras have mechanical shutter which is also noisy but the Nikon series has mostly electronic shutter due to the slightly smaller sensor. I have the V1 which does have a mechanical shutter but has a dedicated switch to change to silent electronic shutter and can shoot in both modes.
