Alberta man dies at Mexican resort - News - MSN CA
Canadian Foreign Affairs is investigating the death of a Canadian man in Mexico over the weekend.
A department official declined to offer any additional details, but friends and Mexican media have identified the man who died as 21-year-old Chris Rogers from St. Albert, a city located immediately northwest of Edmonton.
"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of a Canadian Citizen who passed away in Mexico," Foreign Affairs spokesman Ian Trites said in an email to CBC News.
"Canadian consular officials in Mexico are in contact with local authorities to gather additional information and are providing consular assistance to the family."
Rogers was vacationing with friends at a resort in Cancun. Mexican media reports said that he was punched during a fight and then fell off a balcony.
Friends say Rogers was an engineering student at the University of Alberta.
