A cow, panicked at the prospect of slaughter, killed a Palestinian man attempting to butcher it during an Islamic festival in Gaza on Saturday.

More than 70 other people have been injured during this year's Eid al-Adha in the Gaza Strip, either with knife wounds on injuries sustained from bolting animals, local health officials said.

During the Festival of the Sacrifice, a four-day celebration that ends on Tuesday, Muslims butcher a sheep, goat or cow to commemorate the story of Abraham - the Islamic prophet Ibrahim - who was rewarded by God for his willingness to sacrifice his first-born son.

In the blockaded Mediterranean enclave, where poverty and unemployment levels are high, many families save all year to buy an animal to slaughter.

A spokesperson from the ministry of agriculture in Gaza said this was the first death the region has seen during Eid and claimed that the man who was killed in Rafah on Saturday was elderly and suffered severe heart problems.

Ibrahim Al Kidra, deputy minister of agriculture, added: “We ask people to use official areas and allow professionals to make their sacrifices but as this costs $150, most people try to kill the animals at home, despite the dangers.” Ends

It doesn't. It sits in a grain lot knee-deep in shit, calmly waiting for it's demise. Then it's led up a ramp to a modern slaughter house and meat production line.
It is killed instantly and humanely by a bolt fired through it's head. - Not constrained by a threadbare rope, hung onto by a bunch of screaming ragheads, while some dickwad camel-jockey attempts over and over again to slit it's throat with a sharpened / bent spoon.

For it efforts I shall buy it and fly it to the UK where it will graze on the finest Cotwold grass while drinking the best still mineral water and being serviced by the Brad Pitt of the bull world...
