Singapore nabs 12th camera pervert
Singapore (dpa) - A French businessman caught filming up a woman's skirt on a Singapore shopping centre escalator was jailed for three weeks, news reports said Saturday.
Jean Noel Francois Godderis, 48, admitted using a digital camera to take pictures under the skirt of a 24-year-old woman on February 11.
A court heard Friday that a man alerted the victim after spotting Godderis, who was taken to the information centre and told to hand over his camera, The Straits Times reported.
The police were called and the Frenchman was arrested. He was in Singapore on a business trip at the time.
He could have been jailed for up to one year and fined.
Since 2005, at least 11 other men have been convicted of similar offences, including engineers, teachers and a doctor, the report said.
Psychiatrist Brian Yeo said there are many Internet sites featuring this type of video footage, but the thrill wears off because the girls featured are strangers.
To attain the same level of sexual stimulation, he was quoted as saying that some men are tempted to take their own "personalized images" of women.
New technology, which has placed high-resolution cameras inside mobile phones, has made it easy, Yeo added.
