Man Orders TV Through Amazon, Gets Assault Rifle

When D.C. resident Seth Horvitz ordered a flat-panel TV on Amazon, he didn’t expect to get a military-grade assault rifle in return.

Horvitz ordered the TV, a Westinghouse 39-inch LCD, for about $320 from a third-party electronics seller on Amazon.

On Tuesday evening, a large, oblong box arrived at his doorstep via UPS Ground.
“When I saw some metal parts inside the box, I thought, ‘Maybe this is a TV stand or mount or something,’” Horvitz said in a phone interview with Wired.

“When I realized it was an assault rifle, it was pure shock and disbelief.”

Not being one to want a personal “shock and awe” arsenal of his own, Horvitz contacted the D.C. police. They immediately confiscated the box, which contained a semi-automatic Sig Sauer 716 patrol rifle.

The police informed Horvitz that the gun was illegal in the District of Columbia.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

Just looked at the thread on Wired. Classic net gun thread. By post three they're arguing about whether it really counts as an assault rifle. By post 5 they're arguing about massacres and constitutional rights

Had this occurred in the UK the police would have charged the recipient with possession of an unlawful firearm. We are quite logical in that way.

A few more presidential assasinations may just be the impetus they require.

Would a Ferrari 458 still be a nice car if it ran you over?

I should imagine the mentalist who got the combined works of Charles Dickens instead of the rifle is going apo-fucking-pleptic!

Yeah you got to wonder about the guy that ordered the assault rifle but got the TV instead.. ..perhaps not the sort of thing he wants to make the news.. still he can keep trying, he's bound to get lucky sooner or later

I think its going to be a very long wait. In the same way that the brits accept 6k a year dying in RTA's as a cost of liberal car ownership.... I think you will find enough americans feel the same way about 'voting post killings' and gun ownership to ensure that change will never happen.

33K in the USA in 2010.

not really sure what that's got to do with gun deaths like.
