'Controlled explosion' on package in Trafalgar Square

Police have confirmed a suspect package in London's Trafalgar Square.
It is being reported a controlled explosion has been carried out.
The square was closed off to pedestrians.

It looks like it might be a steel pipe with C-4 stuffed in. I can understand that they chose to blow it up.
So an explosive package designed to do damage is destroyed by blowing it up in situ, how novel.
Don't tell me you have never heard of that practice. It is commonly done when removal is considered risky.Quote:
