In September
of 1969 Zoological Museum and MarineAquarium of
Srinakharinwirot University(now is known as Burapha
Unversity) or it was commonly known under the name
of “Bangsaen Museum” was established by a few staff
of the Biology Department and a group of Biology
students with the strong support by Dr. Boonthin
Attakara; the former Director General of Teacher
Training Department and former Undersecretary of
the Ministry of Education.
The marineaquarium is the
place where several species of marine animals are
reared and shown for the purpose of education, research
and recreation as well. In this part of the institute,
there are over 180 species of marine animals; both
indoor and semi-outdoor shown in 44 tanks with capacity
ranged from ? cubic meter to 200 cubic meters. Besides,
imitation of the marine lives are also shown to
the public,especially those inhabited in the tidal
zone of the Gulf of Thailand.
Displays in these marine aquaria are composed of
animals living in the supratidal zone or splash
zone, intertidal zone, coral reefs and in the sea
as well.
The marineaquarium is opened to the public from
08.30 am. to 04.30 pm.everyday, except Monday.
Marine Science Museum is division
where all specimens of marine animals, replicas
of marine animals, skeletons and marine plants are
deposited and exhibited as well. In this museum,
marine animals, they include fishes in the reference
collection, mollusks and some kinds of mammals such
as stuffed dolphin and whale skeleton, charts of
animal phylogeny and others are shown as exhibition
part of the museum. Excluding these, there are also
many interesting objects shown for the museum’s
visitors such as pottery and some utensils from
the sunken ships are also exhibited.
This museum will be opened to the public from 08.30
am. to 04.30 pm. Everyday, exce pt Monday
