| A friendly taxi driver may be able to sort you out with a hooker, but I wouldn't (and didn't) bother. I don't think the standards are very high. You'll certainly not be able to find that Moghul harem experience. |

| Thanks for all replies . We have now booked a small (cheap) hotel close to Calangute Beach. It seems to be the centre of any activity AND has a beach . If anything of interest happens I'll post. (That will be in November...if I survive Pattaya!!!) |

| Not horrific (don't worry). It didn't have much character. Kinda reminded me of an English beach rather than a tropical paradise. We stayed for two days before moving on back to Baga in the north for Christmas. I'll have a look for some pictures when I get home.

| Totally agree with Marmite, Palolem beach is lovely. I stayed at Calangute back in '99 but it just done my head in, a real shithole and after a heavy night on the K and M at a party I upped and left and took a bus further south. Come across Palolem beach and stayed with an Indian family there in there attached room for about 80 rupees a night. Absolute bliss, fishing every day with a bamboo rod off the rocks (bit further along from the main beach), bit of puff and a shark steak everynight, sorted. The real magic of it though was everyday they sent there 18 yr old virgin daughter in my room to wash me. It seemed a bit odd at first but I got used to the idea after about 30 seconds. Suffice to say she wasn't a virgin when I left. ![]() And for some stupid fucking reason, I came to Thailand got stuck here and as yet have never made it back. Every year I promise myself to go back to India, but it never seems to happen. I expect a few of you are the same. I'd like to check out Kerala as well, next year maybe! |

| I'm not one for beachlife really, the canals look lovely though. I spent the millenium new year in Palolem, out on a rock in the sea. I think I may have munched a little too much hash coz me only friend on that rock was a shrew that kept popping over to have some of my water and I'm sure I see 3 shooting stars that night though on refelection I reckon they were small meteorites which are far more common to see. I'm sure the local fishermen were looking funny at me too. ![]() Anyone else like me, travelled in Asia by doing the India then Thailand route and never made it back to India? I remember a friend telling me that if I wanted to travel the world then be careful not to get stuck in Thailand coz its a trap for wasters like me. 5 years later my nicknames 'bkkmadness' and I still haven't travelled anywhere else. And me friend with the sound advice is still stuck here too. ![]() Ok, honestly, next year back to India, for sure! ![]() Now can someone start a Nepal thread? That place was fucking heaven.
