| Thanks to all for the positive comments. The balloon ride is in Bagan, an area in the central part of the country and home to something in excess of 3000 temples. Mind you, many are small and humble, but you really can't cast your gaze anywhere without seeing one. The ride is offered by a company called Balloons over Bagan. It's owned and operated by some guys from the UK. Very professionally done and with complete attention to safety. It is not cheap, but the price -- it was US$325 per person when I was there -- is reasonable compared to what you'd pay elsewhere and considering the truly unique experience it provides. They are a company with a conscience as well. After the Nagris disaster they used their in-country capabilities and connections to get real aid to some of those who needed it most. The rides are everyday weather permitting. One at dawn and one in the evening. The one at dawn is much more popular, more likely to actually launch (since the air is typically more calm in the morning), and (IMHO) provides a more picturesque experience. It's easy enough to book a ride through their website. The basket under each balloon holds several people -- it's subdivided into compartments for two. They have a website, Balloons Over Bagan where most of what you would want to know is explained. Understand also, that you can book the ride through some travel agents in Yangon (Columbus Travel and Exotissimo Travel, for example) and get a slightly lower rate. Hope that helps.
