    Vietnam Visa on Arrival?

    Anyone been to Vietnam recently?
it's been a couple of years for me and at that time I needed a visa before departing.
I've since heard, (forget where) that visa on arrival is available these days.
Can anyone confirm this, it would make my life a lot easier.
    Thanks.

You need to preregister online, and it take 4 days. There is a rapid version if you pay more money.

Yeah, be careful, visa on arrival is not just that.... not like Cambodia... arrive and pay.

I was told by a mate that VoA on Vietnam was in place.....

My kids were travelling on Thai passports but they only had 5 months left..... no problem I say..... they can change to UK passports and do VoA.... good idea says my mate.

They arrive at the sirport, get refused to travel with the Thai passports which we half expected...... so out come the UK passports..... Nope.... but VoA I say..... Nope....

I call my mate.... was no problem for me......

I ask them again....No sir.... cannot....

Eventually I call him again..... yeah he says it was easy, had to go to the embassy fill in all the forms, pay and I collected my Visa On Arrival.... dumb prick.... would have been easy, I'd gotten mine no problem (not that I went, it was handled by others)

Now it can be done online, but it's certainly not as easy as Cambodia.

On the plus side, I got 3 days alone in VN before the kids arrived with their new visas.....55555

    ^

I was in Hanoi earlier this year and gained a Visa on arrival.

I would never do it again simply because the Immigration Officers where tossers with a bad attitude and because of the time one has to wait to get it.

Remember that plenty of punters are getting the Visa on arrival so you join the line.

    Saigon may be different.

Save yourself the time and get the Visa before you land. Walk straight in this way.

    9 trips...no hassle

Have just completed our 9th trip in 2 years. I apply, as a UK passport holder online, receive the letter, hand it in at the window before immigration in Hanoi etc walk to the other end of the room, collect passport with visa sticker..all done in 5 mins. Biggest wait is the actual imm line......can be like Swampy at 7 in the morning.

    ^

That's good to hear, we where there for quite a while.

Suppose it depends on the amount of punters waiting for their Visa.

No, like he said ^ you can pre register online but you still have to wait in line to get your visa before going to the immi desk.

No probs at all, just arrive at airport, if you are from Singapore, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Japan or some other rich country that were not seen as the enemy back in those times of Girl in the Picture - then you are through in 5 minutes. If you do not know what I am talking about, please educate yourself and then just go through the full processing well beforehand. Do visit War Museum though.

Besides Vietnam is very beautiful and wonderful country, with culture, and the beaches.

A friend mentioned to me that it's $90 for a 30 day visa now. Wow - that's pretty pricey.

One might say. Stay at home on your generous social security, birdshit farang.

OK, editing this later, perhaps I was a bit unfair (my way of saying apology if generously accepted). Bad hair day even so few of them I guess.

More to the point, it seems that it is now in national characher to get all you can from foreigners. And can you blame that after all that Agent Orange.... Vietnamese returning from overseas (roughly Viet Kieu) seem to be worst in screwing up the foreigners and I have had my share of that, but forgiven the land for it's other attributes.
