| ^^^Agree to a point. In lawsuit crazy America that type of "reporting" can only go so far. However, I agree with your previous posts regarding bias. It's more catering (or patronizing) certain segments of the pop. than any type of concern for reporting an objective truth. |

| liberal bias? [quote=Milkman;225086]Milkman, as usual, you got it right. The U.S. media will ignore or ridicule anyone (right or left) who threatens their interests. Noam Chomsky (recently voted the world's greatest living intellectual by his peers) is virtually banned from major networks. Meanwhile intellectual thugs like Sean Hannity and hare-brained skanks like Ann Coulter get air time whenever they want. Chomsky is too left for my tastes but he nailed it in his book 'Manufacturing Consent' when he said the essence of propaganda is not lies, but : 1.) topic selection (e.g. how much did we hear about the Indonesian massacres of 1965 and Timor or Rachel Corey being run over in broad daylight by an Israeli bulldozer?) and 2.) framing the issues (e.g., the only 'reasonable' positions regarding healthcare in the U.S. revolve around who will pay for old peoples' pills). And on the right, Pat Buchanan is viewed as an "isolationist" and 'Holocaust denier" because of unfair mainstream press coverage. |

| Durian eater | ^why should an obvious america hater like Chomsky have any significant platform in the USA? He does get plenty of airtime on NPR BTW! I think his books are sold and in the libraries too. He's make a good living off his leftist extremism. I wonder if Bill O'reilly would have similar opportunity in Venezuela or Cuba! People like Chomsky and Michael Moore are laughing all the way to the bank peddling their disingenuous marxist rhetoric. It's happens only in america the place they hate so much! As far as liberal bias in the media it's no secret the majority of news people are liberals. David Gregory, Peter Jennings, Dan Rather, Hellen Thomas, Wolf Blitzer, the crew at CNN just to name a few. Or how about the entire staff of the NYT! Slanted? No question about it. Perhaps if you watched CNN when they were announcing the 2004 election results. On air their extreme disappointment was very palpable. The only real counterbalance is Fox News. And oh how the liberals cry and moan about fox news and venomously denigrate and insult anyone who watches. Mean spirited? Perhaps. For liberals freedom of speech seems to only count if they like what they are hearing! |

I've read enough of both Chomsky and Moore to see how their philosophies are indeed influenced by Karl Marx. They don't come right out and proclaim Marxism but it is without a doubt part of their underlying beliefs. | ||

| There's very little if any similarity between the classic definition of Marxism and the beliefs of Chomsky (Marxism allows for a dictatorship of the working class while such an organ in Chomsky's beliefs would in fact be democratic, as one such major difference in philosophy). |

| M.M. is close to the Democrats, Chomsky a Libertarian Socialist, little similarities to Marxism, if any. Get your terms right, if you must use any, or don't be surprised when your simplistic focks-news rhetoric gets ridiculed, Earl. |
