| What they mean by 'real freedom' is license to lie, smear, and denigrate regardless of the facts - just have a look at the posting history of those who scream the loudest about 'freedom' and the 'biased' media. |

Our Canadian papers are flipping libbie; it's just unacceptable. Our local paper posted an AFP article about Eric Holder yesterday, which excluded any info about the Marc Rich affair. I checked the AFP web article and it included it. The problem with the libbie press is that they will report "factual" info but only that which promotes their pick. Anything detrimental is excluded. I watch Fox News everyday along with all the leftie media, MSNBC (until I throw up), CBS, ABC, CNN, just to see how they cover the same story (been doing it for years since I worked in PR in Tokyo -- every paper had a different take on events). Sure, Hannity is right to the wall, but he asks some good Qs. Besides Fox, who else is mainstream right? Sure, lots of blogs and websites, but name one mainstream right-wing media source in the US, Europe, Britain, or Aisa...oh, the FT. Even the Economist is leaning left these days. Of course, the Ed boards have to slant the news to the owner's wishes, but socialists like Olbermann, Maddow and most of the NYT are so blatantly one-sided, it's frightening.

The German Axel Springer Group, one of the largest newspaper publishing companies in Europe, is right-wing. Their Bild Zeitung has the largest circulation in Europe. The SUN and The Daily Mail are right-leaning and are the largest papers in the UK. That's just some which spring to my mind immediately. If you wish to claim the media world-wide are biased left-leaning, you'll have to do better than asking others to provide examples to the contrary. I am not going to do your research for you.

| The discussion about the media is relevant today, as it's always been. But look how the internet has changed the we get information. We have greater access to information. Greater access to many more publications in the Mainstream and outside of the mainstream media. We are more informed today than we were, say, 20 years ago, 50 years ago, 100 years ago. If I want bias, I'll seek it out. If I'm searching for something that attempts to be objective I'll seek that out too. Cautiously, of course.

You've been a bit too enthusiastic in extending the allegation of 'liberal' bias across the world. Even for the US it is difficult to make a compelling argument, it very much depends on one's point of view and criteria what constitutes an overall bias. It is also interesting to have a look at how the media select themes and topics at the expense of dropping others - inevitable given the wealth of info available. I would say this is equally if not more important than in which direction the reporting of these themes are slanted overall. It provides the bandwidth on which attention is focused. There are country-specific differences which are easier to see from the outside and portray the general political direction in a more fundamental way than the perceived variations in favouring one part of the party-political spectrum of that country over another.

| Thailand Travel Forum | “Obama dozed, people froze.” “President Obama doesn’t care about white people…and neither do the MSM.” Well, that really wouldn't be Lamestream Media fairly covering the news, eh? Check this too: Obama and FEMA leave Americans to die in Kentucky. Lamstream Media totally ignoring white people dying. Why 'am I not surprised?

| The media does have a liberal bias and should indeed have one. Fuck objectivity in reporting. Let there be some bias, and let people make up their own minds. Katie Couric single handedly sunk the McCain- Palin Presidential ticket. During that interview it was pretty apparent she was out to destroy Sarah Palin. Katie did a fine job and we are all in her debt for it. |
