Does hanging really help the run for presidency?

Are the American public so naive to believe that Saddam has been sentenced just before their great leader is up for re-election again.

IMO In any civilized country hanging somebody would most definetaly not be seen as a plus point to re-electing a president. Yet Bush appears to be very happy that Saddam has been sentenced to hang and that the war in Iraq ahs been worth it, down to this fact.

Is this the ramblings of a sane world leader?

Sane but quite ruthless. America gets the leaders who reflect its voters. Our voters tend not to be well-informed and more than a tad vindictive. I support capital punishment myself but I respect the opinions of those from countries who have risen above the "revenge ethic".
Fess up...if you were going to single out someone who truly deserved hanging, wouldn't Saddam at least make the top ten?

Saddam danced in celebration after 9/11/01.
Now he is going to swing.

Seems civilized to me.

As far as affecting the run for presidency, are you talking about the USA?
USA president elections aren't until 2008!
Having Saddam swing will be a show of strength which will be good for the US because the USA is perceived in the ME as being weak.
That perception will be changing during the next few years.

Bugger me - and all this time I have been under the impression that it was the Iraqies that had sentenced him to death, not the US........

Are you from England ? The country that reserved the right to gas "sand niggers" in Iraq back in the early 1900s ?

I'm damn glad I'm not from that insignificant piss ant country. The English have the most pronounced inferiority complex of any peoples I've ever come across.

By the way carrot lips ... Bush isn't up for relection.

A small percentage of Yanks are foolish and ignorant enought to actually switch a vote in favor of GWB if they are on the fence, and unsophisticated. But not many will change a vote based on this.

Approval ratings are another matter (they aren't votes cast). Approval ratings tend to be more flexible for the fickle masses.

For example, when Al-Zarqawi was killed, Bush got a bump in the polls. It didn't last long, but he still got a bump.

Statistically, most Americans are not very aware of what is going on.

I have many British mates and I loves' 'em. But some British folks I run into complain about my country and accent a lot. But these are folks I usually don't know. They're usually a tourist, or lower class person on holiday.

Why do they complain to me? I don't know.

When I'm 'Nam or say, Pattaya eating a British breakfast which I enjoy some will complain about a news story to me after they realize what country I am from.

So I hear SK's point on this.

As for the French. You're just azzholes. That's the way they are, in general. I've tutored some French kiddies. Boy do they go on about France, Napolean, etc. France hasn't produced good news in decades. The bottom feeders of the EU.

The tourists. sheesh.....

Isn't it a bit strange to hang someone who was committing crimes while the U.S. supported him without question? During the time of the alleged incidents the U.S. needed Saddam to win the war against Iran.

Thus, why are we trying him for things which at the time were vital to our supposed national security interests?

You're not trying him the people of Iraq are trying him.

Not quite sure why then Bush thinks that the American people should feel good about this since it isn't even something happening in America.

I suspect though that all those dead soldiers are really worth Saddam hanging from a noose and soiling himself.

How many dead soldiers now?

That's precisely the point.

Isn't it funny? Someone attempts to assassinate Saddam, he kills them in revenge and gets sentenced to hang for it.

Someone attempts to assassinate Bush. Sr, we invade Iraq in revenge, who's going to hang for that?

The good news is that we have divided Iraq along sectarian lines and handed the enemy of one group to the leadership of the other on a silver platter.
