| Reagan put an end to your dream ray. The Soviet Union... right into the dust bin of history. Pope John Paul II was the left hook and Ronald Reagan was the overhand right. Pow! Pow! Unfortunately, Reagan may have been a deviation from the standard which we may never see again. It may be that we're all headed back into the republicanism of the blu blood new englanders. The USA is based on a system of economic and governmental liberalism. The republican party before Reagan was part of it. Look at Nixon, he didn't limit the role of the federal government in our lives, he increased it. Reagan was a whole new idea that traditional republicans have been separate from. Nowadays they conjure up Reagan at ceremonies and in speeches to placate people but they haven't followed his ideas. The repub party should never have turned on Gingrich he was the last one with any power who believed in the Reagan revolution.

| I am so proud of the USA. That we can survive 8 years with a nincompoop like GWB as President. And the republic survives! We have the oldest constitution in the world, and still the strongest democracy. Sure we screw up, sure did in 2000 and 2004 (barely), but the republic survives. We'll do better this next election cycle I am sure. It seems that we "self-correct" occassionally, people like the middle of the road. Had a nice chuckle yesterday, when the pastor of a local mega-church got caught out sniffing a little methaphetamine and poking a local gay prostitute. Oooops.... |

congratulations on your patriotic American sentiment. Since we are an issues forum we do try to address things in as factual a manner as possible. So just for your info it was the 2000 election that was so close that it was ultimately decided by the courts, not the 2004 election. Bush won in 2004 with a decisive victory in comparison. And scum pastor Haggard admits his guilt of stupid indiscretions but his accuser also fails polygraph tests regarding his homosexual relations. Next time check your facts! You will at least appear to be smarter than you really are! | |

| The Republican revolution of 1994 was the last great stand of Conservative Republicanism. Since then a bunch of Democrats disguised as Republicans have taken over. A lot of people made fun of Newt but he's far more conservative than anyone in power now. Too bad the party of Reagan and Newt left the building several years ago. I wonder if it can be located? |
