There is no evidence of this happening.

Why would this happen?

Where did you read this, Jet? What are you talking about.

What do you mean by "icing on the sh*t cake?"

she means things are falling apart for her beloved country (that she doesn't actually come from) and an attack from the commies would just about finish it off.

The Democrats under Clinton. That's where the Fannie/Freddie mess started. "Hey, low-income/welfare case, you too can own a home! No down payment and the govt will insure your payments."
OSB and AQ too... he just rode the previous admins coat tails it was all working well for him.. why change anything? now the chickens have come home to roost, so here we are..

How does it make a difference, ray? Tell us how the regulations Clinton established, the one's requiring banks to make risky loans, were repealed. They weren't. Banks were required to make bad loans by law. It was an attempt to by the government to bring the American dream to people who couldn't afford to own a home. The theory was that if a person has a vested interest in the community (home ownership) they would be more likely to care about the community thriving and being successful. It was a good idea with good intentions

This is an example of not only corruption but it's an example of the massive, weighty, inertia of the government entering a market. It competes with private industry sucking up business offering lower rates. The government program lumbers on, indifferent, running over anything in it's path taking too long to stop when it's gone too far.

Bush tried to get the media to pay attention to this problem back in 2005. But what was the media busy doing instead? Pummeling Bush about the Iraq War. "It's Bush's fault" was the fashion.

^ True. Bush did try to tighten some regulations. BTW, "It's Bush' fault" is STILL in fashion, as demonstrated by Pelosi before the bailout bill vote.

The deal is things don't get done in the USA unless the media is on board to send the message nto people's homes. There were attempts to reign in Fanny Mae but the media was on the other side of the issue so nothing was done. Granted Bush could have called for air time to address the people directly.

^Whaaaaat?? The media doesn't (and hopefully never will) make policy. If the media is on the other side of any issue, it doesn't matter. Policy makers have an obligation to their parties and their constituents. I seriously doubt that Fanny Mae was doomed simply because the media was on the other side of the issue.

As the article I put up a link to in US domestic notes, Fannie and Freddie was encouraged and pressured to "get as many people into homes as possible." They were allowed to increase the amount of loans in the subprime market.

This started in the mid 90s, and continues up until now.

It makes you wonder. The people the run the country (politicians) and the people who run these large companies are just not bright people. They were and are myopic.

Stupidity, is part of the reason why this mess in going on.

it seems some of our republican members and apologists have (conveniently) short memories.

well here's a quick refresher......google 'ownership society'.

and btw, the absurd deregulation policy that got us so deep into this mess was written and pushed through congress by sen phil gramm (R) of texas. oh, and by the way, up until about a month ago, he was mccain's chief economic advisor...until he got thrown under the bus for calling americans 'whiners'.

I watched her unnecessary rub the Republicans and GWB's nose in the shite ramblings. In doing this just prior to the vote she again demonstrated her usual lack of leadership and partisanship. Had she stuck to explaining why the bill was necessary rather than playing the blame game, the few additional votes needed to pass the bill would have been there.
