^ palin.

she hasn't slipped into obscurity yet...give it a few months though.

anyway, some here on TD thought was qualified to be VP of the US because of her 'executive' experience.

IMO the palin family should have their own reality show....i'm thinking a cross between the osbornes and hee-haw.

Quote:
Levi Johnston is in big trouble at the Sarah Palin household.

After taking about sex on "The Tyra Banks Show," Johnston – the 18-year-old father of Bristol Palin's baby – was hit with a blistering response from Bristol's mother, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

"Bristol did not even know Levi was going on the show. We're disappointed that Levi and his family, in a quest for fame, attention, and fortune, are engaging in flat-out lies, gross exaggeration, and even distortion of their relationship," says the statement from the Palin family rep.

"Bristol's focus will remain on raising Tripp, completing her education, and advocating abstinence," the statement continues. "It is unfortunate that Levi finds it more appealing to exploit his previous relationship with Bristol than to contribute to the well being of the child."

The statement ends, saying, "Bristol realizes now that she made a mistake in her relationship and is the one taking responsibility for their actions."

In the show airing April 6, Johnston tells Tyra Banks that he believes Sarah Palin knew he and Bristol, 18, were having sex when they lived under her roof. "I'm pretty sure she probably knew. Moms are pretty smart," Johnston says.

The couple, who were high school sweethearts, planned to wed after graduating – but ended up splitting earlier this year. At the time, Johnston told "Good Morning America" that he needed to mature before getting married.
so palin's kid is advocating abstinence?

what's next, rush limbaugh advocating a healthy diet and exercise?

Quote:
JUNEAU — Gov. Sarah Palin stepped back from an earlier call for U.S. Sen. Mark Begich to resign pending a fresh election after a federal judge dropped charges against former Sen. Ted Stevens.

At a press conference Friday morning in her Capitol office, Palin claimed she never said Begich should step down.

Alaska Republican Party Chairman Randy Ruedrich issued a press release calling for Begich to step down and for a new election shortly after the news broke that Stevens’ charges may be dropped.

In an e-mail response to the News-Miner, Palin said “I absolutely agree.”
She clarified she agreed with Ruedrich’s call for a new election and for Begich to step aside until that happens.

A question on her call for a new election was among many posed at the Friday press conference.

“I didn’t call for Begich to step down, either,” Palin said. “I said I absolutely agree that Alaskans deserve a fair, untainted election for the United States senate seat. I’m not splitting hairs on how that happens. I’m saying wonderful, good. I want to see an election that is fair, that isn’t influenced unduly by some announcement that the sitting senator was facing a multi-felony count conviction. That’s what we were told. Now, come to find out, that wasn’t the case.”
poor sarah.

if she keeps this sort of thing up, she's going to need a new pair of these...

Quote:
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Gov. Sarah Palin has paid more than $8,100 to reimburse Alaska for the costs associated with nine trips taken with her children.Palin's attorney, Thomas Van Flein, says the governor paid $8,143.62 to the state on June 19 for the nine trips, some with more than one of her five children, taken between January 2007 and February of this year. The payment was due Tuesday.

As for the last couple of posts, Palin is very unlikeable.

Palin went very negative in the campaign, took the low road, and is perceived as beind self-interested and selfish by many of the public and the people directly involved in her campaign.

Patronizing blue-collar workers, dropping the "-ing" endins on words as in Walkin' workin' and talkin', for example.

The $700 dollar Nieman-Marcus hand bag for a 7 year old.

Palin took heat, but was she attacked? Not unlike other politicians running in an election. Palin did a lot of attacking herself.

And now, another bad PR move are the vacations being paid back to taxpayers.

Paline has high ratings within the GOP and people who identify themselves as Conservatives, but in the general population (composted of a lot of Independents, Palin has high negative polling numbers.

It's what the general voting population thinks of her, not the just the limited niche of what is now the GOP.

This is a national poll (and hopefully done right) but I just saw the Alaska polling numbers in May, '09 for Palin and she has slipped.

This could be a strategy for Palin to resign before the next election, where she may have a tight race or be defeated.

It's possible.

The numbers below show that she's popular among many Republicans (those who claim to be a Republican) but her unfavorable (negative) ratings are in the 40s in the general public.

To a national candidate, you have to get the independents. And also, those that claim to be "Republican" is a small base than before.

Pew poll: Palin popular among Republicans but polarizing

Gov. Sarah Palin “continues to be a divisive figure among the general public” but is hugely popular among Republicans, according to a new national survey by the Pew Research Center.

The survey, conducted June 10-14 among 1,502 adults reached on landlines and cell phones “finds that impressions of Sarah Palin have not changed much since the presidential campaign.”

....Nearly as many of the people surveyed said they have an unfavorable impression of Palin (44 percent) as have a favorable view of her (45 percent).

Unlike Romney, Palin’s ratings continue to be much better among conservative Republicans (80%) than among moderates and liberals in the party (62%). And while positive views of Palin have slipped among non-evangelical Republicans (from 77% to 67%), they remain overwhelmingly positive among white evangelical Republicans (84% now, 85% last October).

Palin receives a more favorable rating from those with a high school degree or less (48% favorable, 36% unfavorable) than she does from college graduates (41% favorable, 52% unfavorable). Regionally, she is somewhat better regarded in the South (49% favorable) than she is in the Northeast (39% favorable).

Here is what some on the Right are saying about her, today. She can't finish the job.......................
Why would anyone vote for someone who did not finish their job?

If it’s her duty to always “protect” Alaska, then that strongly implies not walking away from the responsibility of governing it — a responsibility she sought, and with which her constituents trusted her to execute. No one leads by quitting. No one leads by quitting. Palin’s abandoning her post, and at least from her own description, doing it because she doesn’t want to deal with the issues of being a “lame duck,” a status all politicians have to handle at some point.

I’ve seen a myriad of excuses on Twitter and e-mail for this bizarre resignation: her legal bills are too high, she’s putting her family first, she doesn’t want to distract Alaskans because of cheap-shot ethics complaints that are distracting everyone. None of those make any sense. If the spotlight was too much, then she shouldn’t have run for office in the first place. If she’s quitting because people are taking potshots at her, then she’s not the kind of political fighter we thought she was. The legal bills might be a rational reason, but thoroughly insufficient for betraying the people who put her in charge of Alaska — and her memoirs would have paid for her legal bills many times over, had she completed her term.

There’s really no excuse, and what Rich Lowry also calls her “terrible,” “rambling,” and “not at all persuasive” statement showed that. Unless there was a serious illness or a serious scandal, the resignation on the grounds Palin gave is simply incomprehensible. She has destroyed her own credibiity in a single day.

And she's getting called on that. Link same as above.

Quote:
Palin's Speech:
The lame-duck explanation was the most incoherent part of the entire statement:
“Once I decided not to run for re-election, I also felt that to embrace the conventional ‘Lame Duck’ status in this particular climate would just be another dose of ‘politics as usual,’ something I campaigned against and will always oppose. It is my duty to always protect our great state. With that in mind, my family and I determined that it is best to make a difference this summer, and I am willing to change things, so that this administration, with its positive agenda, its accomplishments and its successful road to an incredible future, can continue without interruption and with great administrative and legislative success.”

Ed Morrissey, writer:
Quote:
Quote:
Bear in mind that the election isn’t next month but about 16 months from now, in November 2010. Using this logic, Palin should never have run for the first term unless she was willing to run for the second, and not run for either if she wasn’t willing (or legally able) to run for a third. Politicians don’t enter lame-duck status until their successor has already been elected and they’re running out the rest of the term. And all politicians become lame ducks at some point — and none of them quit just to avoid it.
