| Gov. Palin is in most ways a prototype Republican. If she is to be effective anywhere it will be in those, mainly western states, the Republicans must win as they have in the past. Many of these states are leaning toward the Dems. As a staunch outdoors person she may appeal to these states. She also gives McCain a VP who appeals to the fundamentalist christian voters. Votes he needs to win and to unite the GOP party. IMO she will have little effect on bringing disgruntled Hillary supporters to the Republican side. She will be protected from her lack of foriegn policy experience by carefully keeping her focused on "change" in Washington. She is an unknown in the eyes of the majority of US voters. The campaign is going to have to have to spend a lot of time in the short time it has left to give her the exposure needed to prove a positive to the GOP hopes. Time will tell but I think John really took a big gamble here.

| Seems that way. Did a little bit more reading on her (oh ok, so I read her Wiki article!). She's anti-abortion, Christian, opposed to gay marriage (but professes to having 'good gay friends'), increased taxes to oil Co's but is also for opening up further drilling fields in Alaska. And she probably pronounces Iraq with a "k"; sure sign of a Republican. So all in all a pretty safe choice policy wise then.

Safe from a Republican point of view but her selection has given the Dems a huge amount of ammunition. | |

| "Time will tell but I think John really took a big gamble here." He is behind in the polls, although it is close. He probably thought he had to take a gamble to pull off a win. I think this was clearly to target women voters, even if it brings in 2 or 3 percent of women democrats, it might be enough. I think if he felt more confident, he might have gone with a more traditional candidate. Anyway, at least he didn't pick Romney. Well, I don't know enough about this lady to pass judgement yet, but from what I have read her, I suspect I will like her fine. |
