My points is that even sophisticated people I know were very enthused about Palin's speech. I think speeches by politicians should be read, not watched & heard. (Even reading speeches, only reveals abstract and obscure points.) As stated, I don't watch conventions or listen to them. Occasionally, out of casual interest I'll scan a speech transcripts. Again, these conventions speeches (and the coming debates) focus on the low-info voters, and it's these low-info voters who are independent, who may tilt the election either way. The marketing, branding, and staging of national politicians and political messages is an art. The of the best are the ones writing speeches, making adds, and inventing soundbites for the masses. The real issues the US faces are not discussed.

and btw, our fears about our sarah not being all that bright have some merit....it took her 6 years and 5 colleges to finagle an undergraduate degree. Politics | Palin switched colleges 6 times in 6 years | Seattle Times Newspaper

| I think the Palin nod for VP took the wind out of BO's sails. Suddenly, the GOP represents something new too. A lot of BO's momentum and nearly his entire platform is based on change -- and he had it in spades. His VP choice was a predictable, necessary move to fill in his gaps. McCain had the dual advantage of choosing second and not having to chose a crutch. Now change will occur regardless of which party makes the White House. |

half the populations of the country hates (not just dislikes hillary clinton), and having her on the ticket would have revitalized the GOP base to such an extent that obama wouldn't have had a chance in most of the swing states.

I think Obama would have gotten a bigger bump with the Clinton announcement. But as RC points out there are just too many American that hate the Clintons, and it would have done wonders to energize the base of the red team.
