| Jumping Jeebus | I think Barry O has a very good chance of winning. Why do I think that? Because I never thought William Jefferson Clinton stood a chance against George Herbert Walker Bush who went from being one of the most popular US Presidents ever to being beaten by a slick talking, philandering Arkansas governor. And that 2000 and 2004 elections were both cliffhangers Never underestimate the stupidity of the american voter I say. |

Texas went to H. Ross Perot. That swung the election. And remember that GH. Bush had an approval rating of over 80% in the April before the election. One of the things that sunk him was the economic downtown. Not about about smooth talking. Quote:

| Mr Earle, After Bob Dole was nominated for the GOP in 1996, I stopped voting Republican and started voting Libertarian, and still do and still will vote Liberatarian. Raycarey: What's interesting about McCain is that many conservatives do not like McCain. If McCain picks a moderate VP it will reduce the influence of the right-wing Christians, IMO. Even if he picks a social-religious-conservative, I don't think McCain will pander to the Christian-rigt. And this, I like. |

Can you say more details about how he's changed? He still supports gay marriage and some other issues.

The only catch is whether his VP will share the same ideology. Though he's also clearly stated that his VP with share his core beliefs. This would put Mitt Romney in the VP slot it seems.

| Jumping Jeebus | ^He could do a lot worse than Romney. Funny thing that McCain has many excellent choices for his VP: Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush Florida Gov. Charlie Crist Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-D) of Connecticut Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty Former Rep. Rob Portman of Ohio Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford Sen. John Thune of South Dakota Bobby Jindal of Louisiana While it seems the Barry O. field of choices is severely limited. |
