| ^There will be plenty of Jack up rigs available by the end of the year, if you want a deepwater 6g Semi you had best start building as Brazil has taken everything that is available and is coming onto the market in the next couple of years. |

| Senior Member | I would think that today they should have drill rigs that can drill and work as deep as drill ships. Seems to me that I have heard that they have been building deep water rigs right along. I know that when I was working on offshore oil that there were rigs then that would do a lot of the deep water work and then when they were thru they would be towed to the north sea, Venezuela or back into the gulf, and that was 17 years ago I retired from all offshore work and if I did any work at all it was a little part time pipeline or dredging work So I have no real knowledge about what is going on today, but if it is needed it will surely be done..

| There is high demand for deepwater rigs and crews especially; all costs related to exploration, drilling, maitenance, shipping, etc. have all skyrocketed. (From research on a note I did last month and for the past few months). I think these deepwater rigs are as safe as the double-hull container ships. Heck, there's been drlling in the Gulf of Thailand for many years now. But, I doubt increases in domestic drilling will bring prices down. The market sets the rates. Interesting about India. I read a recent article that the consumer petrol cos are losing their shirts from those subsidies, and the govt and parties are reluctant to raise prices as elections are coming up. I would expect rioting. Dunno about prices in China. |

| Yep, there are no deepwater rigs available. However given that it takes about three years to shoot seimsic and work up prospects before drilling, I guess they can wait for things to slack off in Brasil and pick up the rigs from there and a few other places. Basically this is all political hot air. Get a policy and stick with it. I think it's called planning, something George Bush has never been good at. |

| this is an issue for the voters of individual states. the reason there isn't drilling off of california and florida is because the people who live there are strongly opposed to it. why do you think crist (until his flip-flop this week) and arnold have been against it? it's a political third rail. |

| Senior Member | Not exactly. Company I work for had a couple semi's out of Puerto Madyrn (sp), Argentina and there were serveral wells drilled (when the weather allowed) with pay in various zones. Probably be more rigs down there now if there were any available and if weather didn't suck as bad as it does in those waters.
