Who was that, then? Michelle's dad had a good job and her mom didn't have to work. Barry's mom ditched him with her parents for awhile, who seemed to be pretty well off. I don't see any real struggling in either case, except that his mom had a penchant for exotic men and dumped her kid to go "find herself".

Don’t know if it is Mrs. Obama or the Obama team handlers but they have certainly gone out of their way to do things to make Mrs. Obama look more like Jackie Kennedy – hair, dress, jewelry, and the like. I wonder if they got her using some of the skin whitenng creams one can find so easily here in Aisa?

Yes, I think we've seen a large degree of the handlers "slicking up" Michelle, and positioning her as a first lady in the mold of perhaps a Jackie. She's appearing much more elegant now, her hair redone, and after appearances on Colbert and other shows, seems to be getting the hang of how to play to the camera.
