Tom Cole, chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, said the loss in Mississippi shows that "Republicans must be prepared to campaign against Democrat challengers who are running as conservatives, even as they try to join a liberal Democrat majority." Love those Dem conservatives who support gun ownership and anti-abortion laws coz that's what their state voters want. Pansies. Oh, Edwards has backed Obama. VP shoe-in? | Obama probably wouldn’t make the worst president but I can’t see myself voting for him. He seems way too smart to actually do what he promises he will do. Kind of like what Bill did, Bill promised liberal policies but signed off on budgets and the relatively conservative fiscal polices of the Republican congress. Worked a charm; Bill proposed liberal ideas such as gays in the military and nationalized health care, but never bothered to actually implement the policies. Instead he rode the wave of the business cycle and the somewhat restrained spending of a conservative congress. I suspect Obama would be somewhat of the same mold. Promise liberal policies, throw a few bones to the far left, but basically not make any major changes in American economic or foreign policies. We could do worse. |

| May I quote a great line from the very recent film "Charlie Wilson's War" A boy is given a horse on his 14th birthday. Everyone in the village says, "Oh how wonderful." But a Zen master who lives in the village says, "we shall see." The boy falls off the horse and breaks his foot. Everyone in the village says, "Oh how awful." The Zen master says, "We shall see." The village is thrown into war and all the young men have to go to war. But, because of the broken foot, the boy stays behind. Everyone says, "Oh, how wonderful." The Zen master says, "We shall see." | ^ If your point is, predicting the future perfectly is impossible, I agree. Hillary, Barrack, or John, nothing too exciting in this bunch, and nothing much to hate either. I suspect America will have some successes and some failures over the next 4 years regardless of who gets elected. |

Could it possibly be that some politicians are popular because they hold certain views, and not that they hold these views in order to become popular? - just a thought. | |

| Sundance is my bff | ^Stroller, good point. This destructive "pigeon-holing" of everyone who holds either a conservative or liberal view on a topic is what's led to this terrible partisan mess. It's blatantly obvious on this board. We have posters completely blind to anything other than their own political party's views, and it makes them very ineffective as debaters. They just keep blurting the same responses to the same issues, like broken records. |

| what i find interesting are the rabid, knee jerk, republicans on this board who are trying to convince everyone that they're not partisan...and their proof is that they've 'endorsed' obama.....when every regular poster here knows that they're simply jumping on the bandwagon. |

| Can't be me, I'm not a Republican. I don't like any of the negativity. It sullies the whole process and erases any shread of dignity. Fortunately the candidates aren't nearly as base as the constituancies. I thought it would be Romney v Obama -- but the religious zealots are bigger haters than the racists. Now it's down to the ageists and racists to see who's eliminated next. For as many elections as I can remember, at the end it always seems to come down to who is hated least. That's sad. |
