I also think the McCain speech did a better (was it enough?) job or giving the undecideds something to think about, whereas I think the Palin speech was geared much more towards the core of the red team. Hopefully the Palin pick, along with her words/ actions leading up to the election will be enough to energize enough of the base to actually go and vote. While hopefully McCain can work towards pulling in more and more of the undecideds. I think there were a number of times during the McCain speech where the base in attendance were reluctantly applauding, but are not on board with what he was saying. Such as this: Quote:
And this: Quote:
But he swung them back around when he followed that bit up with this bit: Quote:
One thing I would have liked to have heard more of was specific policy plans. Did not really hear enough of that during either convention.

| i read an analysis of the speech which I think summed up mccain's effort quite nicely.... it was a valedictory speech, not the acceptance speech for the beginning of a presidency. kind of like the speeches given by aging actors when they're given 'life time achievement awards' before they die. they were never able to win one on merit, but their colleagues feel sorry for them as they get close to death, so they're thrown a bone. |

It was an attempt to respond to what you had posted. Granted it seems that my response was misdirected. As it seems you were making note of the fact that even though much of the Obama dirty laundry is “old news”, folks (me included) are still making posts about it. Rather than attempting to draw any comparisons between the Palin comments and any comments made by Rev Wright. Seems I was in error in regard to my interpretation of your post. My apologies. Quote:

Then again maybe I have yet again miss interpreted what you have posted? Did you mean that my statement "No reason for anyone to report on it until after McCain picked her." was a load of crap? Granted you probably think much of what I post is crap so it has peaked my interest that you found the bit from that post worthy enough to specifically call it crap.

| Wooden. Predictable. No specifics. The convention build-up (other speeches and McCain's film biography shown before his speech) stressed his character. Of course, John McCain's first wife wasn't mentioned. Carol McCain probably suffered more physical and emotional pain over the years than her husband and she has handled it with a lot of bravery, character and dignity. Carol never says a bad word about the ex-husband who abandoned her. Her character dwarfs his. |

| Polls, polls, polls. Gallup (Daily): Gallup Daily: No Dent in Obama Lead So Far Obama - 49% McCain - 42% Rasmussen (Daily): Rasmussen Reports™: The most comprehensive public opinion coverage ever provided for a presidential election. Obama - 47% McCain - 43% CBS (Weekly): McCain ties Obama in new poll, Palin pushes for funds after big speech - Phoenix Business Journal: Obama - 42% McCain - 42% (Note the CBS poll was conducted Mon-Wends, prior to the Palin and McCain speechs). Should be interesting to see if McCain gets a bounce following his speech, and the convention wrap-up. Really baring any big mistake by either side this will be McCain's last chance to make a big move in the polls, until the debates. Seems McCain got a pit of a bump prior to his speech, if you want to count his intrade going up as this guys seems to: Megan McArdle (September 04, 2008) - How can I say Obama's in trouble when he's leading in the polls? Do we need to take a poll as to whether ray is the pettiest most puny pip squeek on TD? Can anyone posssbily be smaller than ray if decency where measured with a tape? What is the exact opposite of "stature"? That is the place occupied by ray. ray is the inverse, if there is a zenith to stature, ray is the nadir. You're predictable. You're predictable to the point that assuming what you will post is not a form of prescience or prejudice, it's a wearisome constancy. It's drugery. It's the beat of a drum on a slave ship. You make it very difficult to dance to your posts. | ||

| ........so i guess they didn't bring up her being a junkie and home wrecker? after all the crap you have posted about obama, the clintons and democrats over the years, and you take such a personal affront to this post? this is what gets you panties in such a twist? it leads me to believe that you must know a woman who is a junkie/home wrecker. but that's beside the point. i posted facts. cindy mccain played an active role in destroying john mccain's first marriage and she did steal prescription drugs from poor people. these are facts. i'm sorry if they don't play into the narrative broadcast by the RNC....but they are facts. but what i'd like someone to describe fully and detail her m.o. on is how she helped destroy mccain's first marriage. now that would make interesting reading. | |

not saying it isn't true, but it would be quite a revelation. just to clear things up a bit......in your opinion, members of what socio-economic class would have received those drugs had cindy not stolen them?

| There's a big buzz about the high TV ratings of the Republican convention but this may be of limited significance. I tuned in simply to see the super-milf Sarah Palin and get an occasional glimpse of daughter Bristol's rather formidible rack. My wife seemed interested in Sarah's Eskimo husband as well as the 'sex on skates' hockey player that got Brisol knocked up (my wife also observed that McCain grins like Chucky from the horror movies and that Cindy bears some resemblance to a space alien). The convention provided some low-brow entertainment but probably didn't change a lot of minds. |
