WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democrat Barack Obama's big national lead over Hillary Clinton has all but evaporated in the U.S. presidential race, and both Democrats trail Republican John McCain, according a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday.

^just what I was thinking. At least one of the candidates will fall in a ditch before Aug. And its looking like it'll be, the economy stupid, all over again. Iraq may be a second-tier issue by then.

Yes much to early to take much from the polls. Just posted them because I like the Real Clear Politics website's approach of averaging poll results.

It usually is. If not directly then by the impact on it based on candidates stance on other issues. Cost of war, cost of universal health etc.

I agree.

7.5 months is a lifetime in political elections, and I think more water will flow under the bridge until the conventions and election.

Yes, I think the economy will be the number 1 issue (even though the President and Congress) cannot and do not have as much influence over it as many in the public think.

Iraq, is fading in the minds and consciousness of the public and voter, according to poll results.

not taking a shot at you, but i have some real clear questions about that site and its methodology. how do they average polls? of the polls they average, are the questions phrased in precisely the same manner? are the questions in each poll in the same order? for example is question 'a' always followed by question 'b' and then question 'c'....or do some of the polls not even ask question 'b'? or ask them 'c', 'b', 'a'?

again, right now.
once AQ decides that it's time to resume operations on a large scale again, iraq will be back in the news. does anyone really think that they just went home and gave up? and frankly, it seems like they're starting to ramp things up already...how many bombs have gone off in the last two weeks? how many have been killed? clearly something is afoot.

and if between now and november either the sunnis and shiites decide it's time to have their inevitable civil war, i can assure you iraq will be back on the front page. and norton brings up a good point about relating the economy to out of control cost of fiasco in iraq. obama will certainly be talking about this in the summer. but i'm sure the white house will be throwing around even more money to try and make sure that doesn't happen.

From the ones I just looked at each ask which candidate they favor. Very straight forward. For example, registered democrats are asked; Do you favor Obama? Do you favor Clinton. For the general election it is a mix of Dem and Rep.

We all know all polls are not created equal so I believe this is what prompts your question. One can always find a poll to support an augment so for me having an average is about the best we can hope for. This site, a Time/CNN owned one seems to generally objective in presenting both parties on an even field.

i undestand how they do it mathematically, but their final results seem suspect if the methodololgy and the questions asked aren't exactly the same in each and every poll that they're averaging.

i'll go and check out their site a bit more.

green on the way.

That may it be but essentially, the race is over. And I do mean the national election. Both these loser democrats will go down in flames as the American people will realize that they can't afford another tax & spend, terror-appeasing whimp like either of them in the White House...heh

I believe the two Demos are tax and spend.

And so is McCain and the GOP Congress and Senate.

Go back and look at the last 7 years.

perhaps they are. can't really say.

but after 8 years of borrow and spend, it would be a welcome return to adult governance.

honestly, which practice would you rather have your govt. follow....

tax and spend

or

borrow and spend?

that $600 check most americans will be getting later this year is coming from money borrowed from china....and most of them will probably use it to buy crap at walmart made by the chinese.

they're surely laughing.

Heh...

"McCain currently leads Barack Obama 49% to 42% and Hillary Clinton 51% to 41% margin"

Rasmussen Reports™: The most comprehensive public opinion coverage ever provided for a presidential election.

...& the margin is only going to grow in McCain's favor as more skeletons come out of Obamarama's closet. Forget the Hildebeast - she's severly damaged goods...

^ A few skeletons in McCains closet too, not least of which he signed an official declaration denouncing his own country and it's involvement in the Vietnam War! Now thats one hell of a qualification for someone trying to be the the next Commander in Chief of the US armed forces.

It seems to me to carry substantially more substance than some comments a Preacher made- which is all that anyone can find against Obama, or the fact that your husband was a bit of a philanderer- which seems to be the main thing against Hillary. Neither of these amount to anything near to Treason- which is a charge that could be very easily brought against McCain.

Then, when you consider that his Daddy was a US Admiral (and grandad) in charge of the Asian theatre, Johnboy signing that denunciation of his own country was a major PR coup for the VC. Lets face it, if McCain was running on a Democrat ticket you would never hear the end of it, given the right wings panchant for negative, dirty politics.

McCain is, understandably, using the vaccuum created by the ongoing Hillary/ Obama nomination campaigns to advance his own cause. So he went to Afghanistan recently, which seems to have gone down well in the Press. I wonder how many service personnel had somewhat mixed feeling about a Politician who publicly denounced his own country, coming over to a place they are fighting and dying, for political gain?

It seems that any US election campaign is mired in the Politics of Negativity these days. And it is the Right which is most deeply mired in this. But two can play at that 'lowest common denominator' game- and I would think that, once the Hillary/ Obama thing is decided, we will be hearing somewhat more about McCain's Treachery. Given the breast beating jingoism of Right wing American politics, this is serious stuff. A future President who, in many countries, would have been executed for being a Traitor? H'mmm.

Furthermore, McCain is noted for his Masterly Statesmanship. -

"Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran."
"I hope he has the opportunity to meet Karl Marx very soon," [about Fidel Castro].

His rhetoric is littered with gaffes (kinda like Bush actually). He seems an affable enough old gent, although many of his foreign policy comments come across as buffoon like- but he really doesn't seem anywhere near enough a Heavyweight to be a realistic Presidential candidate.

Vietnam Veterans against John McCain-

Vietnam Veterans Against John McCain

A few skeletons in the McCain closet alright.

Nope, the place he was held was the 'Good boys camp'. According to the other POW's there, people were not tortured in this place. The VC were well aware of his PR value, being both son and grandson of prominent Admirals, and after the first few days he was basically treated with kid gloves.
