So what's your beef with Frank Chu, another proponent of the Great Old Party?

"Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" "On June 12, 1987, President Ronald Reagan spoke the people of West Berlin at the base of the Brandenburg Gate, near the Berlin wall. Due to the amplification system being used, the President's words could also be heard on the Eastern (Communist-controlled) side of the wall. The address Reagan delivered that day is considered by many to have affirmed the beginning of the end of the Cold War and the fall of communism. On Nov. 9-11, 1989, the people of a free Berlin tore down that wall." "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!"

| Wasn't the wall torn down by the German people in the wake of East-Germany's overthrow of the Soviet puppet regime? Actually, the Pope deserves more credit than Reagan for encouraging East-German dissent. Last edited by stroller : 23-03-2008 at 09:31 PM. |

affirmed the beginning.... More important than Reagans speach was Erich Honeckers resignation and loss of grip of Stasi. Or if you want to go longer back in time, the death of Brezhnev.

The Pope is not given enought credit by many Americans. Reagan was one piece of a big puzzle. The USSR basically self-imploded. The economy of the Soviet Union started declining at least by 1960 and the US knew it. The CCCP was producing products that no one wanted to buy or use, and they also had waste, corruption/graft and inflation. Reagan was one of many factors. But he wasn't the main factors. I don't understand how people oversimply so easily.

| Oh boy, you have no idea how much that senile actor was despised in Germany. He's responsible for riots and the underground being torched in protest of his visit, not the Berlin wall. Last edited by stroller : 23-03-2008 at 08:09 PM. |

And it will be an easy task for coming European generations to take the piss out of the Americans. ![]() Reagans speech was insignificant but I'll give him A+ for good timing. Do you really believe in what you're writing Booners?
