I didn't know that North was involved in the hostage situation, which took place from 1980-81.

Iran-Contra came later: secretly selling arms to Iran to fund the Contras in Nicaragua.
That's right, Ollie (aka the Patriot) brokered a deal with Iran/Nicaragua to free the hostages when Reagan took office.
I stand to be corrected Boon,

but I thought that Iran-Contra occurred during the mid-80s, after Congress had halted financial support for the Contras. That's when Reagan circumvented it using the arm sales.

The American hostages were released the day of Reagan's inauguration in January of 1981.

Well, the Patriots are going to get their asses kicked on Feb. 3rd by the N.Y. Giants in the Superbowl - so?

the point boonie, is that north is a criminal and the voters of VA saw that clearly. it's only far right radicals like yourself who continue to lionize north and attempt gloss over his crimes.

Oliver North is anything but a criminal in any sense of the term. He did what bleeding-hearts like yourself could not do and got the job done. Ask the hostages who were released from the embassy if he's a 'criminal'...

Drug running and illegal arms trading not fit your definition of "criminal" then Booners?

Boon,

Can you please provide a link that show Ollie North was involved in the Hostage release in Jan. of 1981?

Thanks.

Lying to Congress & getting impeached does make you a common criminal though.

Clinton was not proven guilty during the Impeachment.

You're entertaining, Boon.

Not citing any rightwing blogs here Stroll but my own and the majority of folks interpretation of the events. Jimmah had 4 years in office to get those hostages released and could not pull his thumb out. It took a guy like Ollie & Ronald Reagan backing him up to get the job done. BTW, Bubba was found guilty - recall the spunk-stained blue dress and Lewinsky's testimony?

Jimmah had four years in Office, but the Iran hostages were held for 444 days, from Nov. 4th 1979 to Jan 20 1981, when they were released. Or the final one third of his term.

"The crisis ended with the signing of the Algiers Accords in Algeria on January 19, 1981. The hostages were formally released into United States custody the following day, just minutes after the new American president Ronald Reagan was sworn in."

Iran hostage crisis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Why do so many of you go on as if the release of the Hostages was a triumph of the Reagan administration- it had nothing to do with him, hell he had not even taken his seat in the Oval Office when the deal was thrashed out.

Because, Iran saw Carter as weak (which he was) and thus had America over a barrel. They knew in their dark little wat jai's, Ronnie would do something a little more agressive?

So you're basing your comment that: "It took a guy like Ollie & Ronald Reagan backing him up to get the job done" on what you guess what the Iranians would've guessed that Reagan would've possibly done... At a guess.
