uh huh...
This just goes to show that McCain is wavering all over the place on many issues to try to fill his tent with the support he needs.

It's also pretty Arrogant to say "American lives are a precious treasure."

Well, McCain voted to put them there, and support this fake "surge."

Anyway, this is the Barak Obama thread, and we can put future comments about Mr. McCain in his lovely thread.

Good?

A new twist to an intriguing family history

Census records, genealogical research show forebears of Obama's mother had slaves

Quote:

Originally published March 2, 2007
WASHINGTON // Many people know that Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's father was from Kenya and his mother from Kansas.

But an intriguing sliver of his family history has received almost no attention until now: It appears that forebears of his white mother owned slaves, according to genealogical research and census records.

The records - which had never been addressed publicly by the Illinois senator or his relatives - were first noted in an ancestry report compiled by William Addams Reitwiesner, who works at the Library of Congress and practices genealogy in his spare time. The report, on Reitwiesner's Web site, carries a disclaimer that it is a "first draft" - one likely to be examined more closely if Obama is nominated.

According to the research, one of Obama's great-great-great-great grandfathers, George Washington Overall, owned two slaves who were recorded in the 1850 census in Nelson County, Ky. The same records show that one of Obama's great-great-great-great-great-grandmothers, Mary Duvall, also owned two slaves.

Not important nor a big deal, but the media has already started with this useless stuff.

crowds in the tens of thousands are showing up to hear obama speak. that's a lot of people to show up to hear a politician speak a year and a half before an election. and he wasn't fear-mongering or going negative against his opponents, he was offering a fresh perspective on problems new and old.

i realize it's still early and everyone is one gaffe away from obscurity, but he could be the right person at the right time.

if primary voters decide he doesn't have enough experience, it would be great to see him on a ticket with al gore. the republicans could put up jesus christ (and will probably try) but i still think gore/obama would win.

What's your hunch, Ray?

Do you think Gore is going to run?

He's got plenty of time.

I still don't know if he will.

It would liven things up, that's for sure.

Definitely.

The election is still 18 months away!

There could be public burnout with all of this hoopla going on now.

As long as I remember, it was always in January, 10 months before, the real campaigning began.

Money and lining up support are two things that are driving these 'early birds' into the race. Some think Newt has blown it by not formally joining the fray yet...

newt gingrich has absolutely no chance of becoming president. none.

just take a quick look at the first page of the thread bearing his name, and try to tell me he's electable.

back on topic....

by voting against gonzalez, obama again showed good judgement.

For anyone still associating Obama with Islam, here an interview with his pastor. I didn't know he's so religious...

If this post at Mother Jones is accurate, Obama seems to be hoping that people don't notice that he opposed the war in Iraq despite believing that Saddam Hussein had developed chemical and biological weapons. The poster writes: “Does America want a leader that is okay with rogue states possessing weapons of mass destruction? Obama obviously thinks it doesn't.”

And yes, I do slum around at MJ from time to time...

Actually, I largely agree with Obama. What puny stocks of this sort of stuff Saddam could have possessed anyway did not justify an invasion.
The UN Inspectors did surprisingly well.

ahem....no quotes here ^. just admit that the final sentence was meant to imply that the above were your thoughts and that you wanted the readers of this forum to think that you stumbled across the quote on an MJ message board, when in fact you plagiarized it from the the national review.....and probably got that link from little green footballs.....maybe i should do a quick search over there, huh?

anyway, i suppose i shouldn't be surprised at catching you at this type of behavior (plagiarizing and being disingenuous) but it's off topic to this thread.

moving on.

obama is a great candidate.......even though 40 odd years ago his parents gave him the middle name (gasp!) hussein.

Much as I'd like to see a black american president Barak Obama isn't the one.

From his little recent softball dem debate it is clear he would have dealt with the 9/11/01 event as a criminal act rather than an act of war. War has been declared against the USA! And this idiot can't see it!!!!

No surprise, really.

Obama placed under Secret Service protection

'Not aware it was based on any threat,' agency spokesman says

NBC News and news servicesUpdated: 6:11 p.m. PT May 3, 2007
WASHINGTON - The Secret Service said Thursday that Sen. Barack Obama was being placed under their protection, the earliest ever for a presidential candidate.

Secret Service spokesman Eric Zahren said Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff authorized Obama’s protection after consultations with the congressional advisory committee.
Officials said Obama had requested the protection.

Such requests are then sent to the congressional panel for approval or rejection.
