Smile Our Holiday to Scotland 2011 with pics

Ok so were heading ooooooop north over the border for a week ,, gentlemen start your engine,s there,s a long way to go

Now this ol gal is a bit like me it,s done a few miles , but can still deliver the goods when called for ,, well I got faith in her

Lunchtime in Newark just off the A1 ,, spent many night,s here in the past during my long distance days.

Here we are staying overnight in the lovely old city of Durham , it was as busy as hell as this is graduation week , took many pics here ,, some I will paint later on .

Ok its day 2 onwards and upwards , now those of you in the know will realise this is the entrance of the old Tyne bridge , now 2 reason,s for going this way as opposed to the Tyne tunnell , number one despite oiling up with preperation ouch I do tend to squeak a bit when I walk ,, number 2 I wanted to show Jan the centre of Newky Brown Country

A slight diversion on the way to our base to be at Oxton ,,,,,,,this is a shot of the Kielder Lake/ Country Park ,, we drove all 25 miles around taking many pics , plenty more painting material here , would love to stay longer BTW beautifully clean bogs if you do go .

Here we are heading Northbound on the A68 toward Edinburgh about 15 mins from our destination at Oxten where we are staying in a log cabin only 4 on the site , more to follow tommorow , slightly dependant on internet + weather but we should be in the Capital city ,,,,,,,see you soon ,,,,the noooooo
I'm proud of my 38" waist , also proud I have never done drugs

Great pics, but I'm curious - why do you have all that Thai crap on your dashboard? :-D

As you well know Nat it takes a special person to uproot from their family to the other side of the world to go and live in a different culture , so any little I can do to make her feel a little bit nearer her homeland I feel is only good and fair. Thats not the half of it , I have some Thai over the back of the car , ie our names , which I have done to attract other Thai/ Uk interest and it has worked a treat , I have made friends with 5 other couples through that. Indoors I have the usual Thai regalia ie A4 size pics of you know who plus various Thai Buddhas about . Hope thats cleared that one up

    Great thread

    nice pics of Newark --Nottinghamshire
    then
nice pics of Durham town ---Durham

    but hang on ,
I cannot quiet put my finger on it , but isn't there a large chunk in between those counties that you missed out altogether ?

You could have gone down pit
The National Coal Mining Museum near Wakefield Yorkshire , Caphouse Colliery mine,
'' underground mine Tour 140 metres down ''
    meet the pit pony

'' To comply with Health and safety , the lift cage down goes extra slow when we know that nervous soft southerners are visiting ''

I thought it was quite minimalistic.

Nigel, you need to pimp that ride
Stop off at Halfords and go invest in a Magic Tree, furry dice, skull gear knob, leopardskin seat covers, bead massagers, furry steering wheel cover, a compass for the dash, some fins for your wipers and a Nigel And Jan sunstrip

Oh and don't forget the tin of travel sweets

    Nice pics BTW

    Interesting thread this Nigel.

The Log cabins at Oxton, would they by any chance be the 'Airhouses?'

I have heard they are amazing log cabins, five star status, en-suite
wet rooms, top class fixtures and fittings. Everything you need for a brilliant break.

Have a great holiday pal, hope you really enjoy it, Jan too of course.

I'll send you a Green for this.

    Nice.

Ok Jan,s now decided to watch one of those DVD thingy,s supplied by our kind hosts , so I certainly aint gonna watch that crap ( and believe me it is ) so I gotta bit of time for a pic update.

Now as if on tee I arrived 2 hours before I should have done at our lodge so was told to go and amuse ourselves for an hour or so ,, just what I want right now some more driving ,, so anyway we back tracked into Lauder about 5 miles from our lodge. Now the A68 passes right through here on its way up to Edinburgh . This village / hamlet has one of those old time shops in it called a " butchers " where you can go and buy a nice cut of meat fresh from the animal that has been slaughtered nearby ,, unlike the pre packed / shrink wrapped sterilised garbage that has been imported from Poland and chucked in our local supermarket fridge display . So I bought us a very nice piece of rib eye which I cooked tonight , very nice it was to

Now as mentioned by the very observant Mathos this is our lodge at Airhouses , 5 stars and very nice it is to

A double oven plus gas hob ,, all we need here for some good grub

Our en suite double bedroom ,,,,,,,,,,,, notice the elephants ?? there allover the living roomm curtains to ,, spooky eh ? but you know who is very happy

Around this side we have our own hot tub spa , we should be getting in that soon ,, pls dont ask for a pic of me in a bikini as refusal often offends , but mabe ,, I said MABE Jan will agree

We begin the pillgrimage up to Edinburgh Castle ( but Jan dont know at this stage I aint payin £15 a head to them sweaty socks to look at their cannons they shot at us ) anyway she agrees it,s a waste of money plus there,s a thousand in the queue in front of us , and I,ve promised her an icecream now

Bit further up the same road we came across some kinda fancy dress shop ,, anyway I aint walking about with that kinda garb on I was married to one of them sweaty,s in a previous life and it would all be too painfull

Now this is the National gallery on the right of us ,we deffo going in there ! it,s free ,no seriously I love me painting ,,,,,,,,,, thats all for now folks , she,s turned that DVD off before the end ( told you it was crap )

er ,,,,not quite mate ,,,,,,, I think if you read again without the red mist ,, I used it on the way up ,,,,,,,,it was 31 degrees in Durham on Sunday ,,, but we have been following your tradition and not running it here as it,s now a cold 11 ok ?

It may well be mate , but I aint cueing behind a thousand Japs on tour , having to wait at every twist + turn listening to their Nikon,s .

BTW we did go to Stirling castle today , that was £13 a head ,,,,,,,how times have changed , it was free last time I went , this used to be known as Great Britain , but now it,s just a great rip off and embarrasment as far as I,m concerned ,, I had to pay another £ 1.70p to park on a pissin public highway outside ! cheeky bastards !
