Sunday at a car boot sale

Saturdays trip to the car breakers reminded me how much I miss a good ' booty '
and I'm not talking about a big black arse in lycra.
On a sunny day in April what better way to start a Sunday morning ( after a quick cuddle and a full English ) than a rumage through a decent booty and a stroll home through a country park and along a canal.

This booty at Denham gets a really cosmopolitan crowd and you'll hear every language under the sun from Chinese to Polish and everything inbetween.

As for tools. Well, if you can't find it here then it hasn't been invented. I've picked up some very useful stuff over the years, and some of it is with me in Thailand.

Some new stuff from China too. Use it once then chuck it away .

My ex misses used to search for designer labels and often picked up expensive stuff for a quid or so.

I bought this head for my hairdressing girlfriend to practice on. Being better looking than me I think she would have prefered it as a transplant but her skills were not up to it.

I've picked up some great bargain from booties. Got a very nice guitar for a tenner once which I sold on for a nice profit but by far and away the best bargain I wangled was an as new ARAI crash helmet for eleven pounds ...still in its box !! Tough to beat that. Also done a few booties myself. Best take was 85 pounds ....worst was only seven ..... can't win 'em all and after all its the taking part that counts.

All a bit much for this toddler and with the sun beating down might as well have a kip while mum has a chat

And after an hour or so of rummaging and five pounds lighter its the nice walk home through the park. Sigh ......... why don't they have booties in Thailand. If they did everything would probably be priced at as new prices I guess.

Well....I went through a skinhead , then suede head , hippy then biker phase during my youth then moved onto mongering in asia before finding true happyness as an unsociable old git.

Still, listened to a lot of good music on the way so it wasn't all bad.

What's a suede head? Is that the cool drugged out look? A bit like a placebo head?

A sort of intellectual skinhead if you can imagine such a thing. Or a halfway house between the skins and hippies.

Well, maybe not half way ................................. quarter possibly ?

My missus loves rootin thru the old car boots , I think it satisfies her hankering for grubbing about in the local markets back home.
Our prize posession we got was a huge 5 foot by 3 foot solid pine surround mirror ,its on the bathroom wall now for the princely sum of 5 ,,,,, probably this size and quality in a shop near the 100 quid mark
I'm proud of my 38" waist , also proud I have never done drugs

From my visits to Thailand, the whole place seems like a "bootie sale" to me. Here in the U.S. we call them "flea markets" -I have no idea why we call them that, sounds sort of debasing. Anyway, great stuff can be found there. I've learned one trick to buying at these places. Either show up very early on the 1st day for finding the best things or show up as late as possible on the last day for bargains. I bought this at one several years ago for $300.00. I've put some money into it, but I'm really glad to have it. The pics below are of my gun. This vid is not me, but the same model of M1-Enforcer. It's a lot of fun.. M1 "ENFORCER" Bump-test. My Thai girl and I have been to many a car boot sale and bought some amazing stuff to bring back. Loads of Thais and Filipinas there doing the same.

End of September and that's the end of them. What to do at the week end? Go back to Thailand!

I love rummaging around the Flea Market here. Sometimes you can get some real bargains. I buy lots of second hand books and odd wine glasses.

As K. ZampanO says above, in the States they're called Flea Markets or Swap Meets. In CA they are usually held at old drive-in movie parking lots and can be fun on a Sunday afternoon.

Here in Thailand we got 'em every day of the week at some local in/around your mooban but it's food the Thai's really get into.

    Good pics and thread Bangyai!

Ah well , since this old thread has been bumped I should also say that the original attraction with car boot sales was that you could pick up stuff for an absolute pittance ..... just a few baht. These days people are using them to flog new stuff or as a scource of second income so its more money driven than it used to be. Still, a lot of bargains out there if you don't mind having a rumage.

How do you find out where they're running each weekend? We're in Greenwich London so it's easy access to any area.

Mostly through adverts in the local papers. Other than that keep your eyes open when driving around for signs outside schools , playing fields , large car parks etc. Failing that, ask in your local newsagents , they usually have their ear to the ground.

Never been to Frinton but i bet it has not got a long dank dripping tunnel like Greenwich
introducing the Greenwich Foot Tunnel -

1200 feet long , 50 foot under the river

    it goes on

    and on

    and

it might even be dark when you come out at the other end
