    Newquay...a walk around, 24th Sep 2010

Newquay often gets unfairly dubbed the 'Vegas of Cornwall' during the summer months, which sees tourist numbers escalate through the roof. Police have made the place a zero tolaerance zone, no alcohol consumption in public, and all under 25s ned ID to buy cigarettes or booze.

After the end of August, things take a different twist altogether. we get our town back.

Surfing is the most popular sport here, and as the UK's number one wave spot it attracts surfer dudes from all over the world.

Low class 'chav' types don't populate Newquay or the surrounds, instead we have middle class skateboard dudes hanging around, and apart from skating in non-skate zones, the most rebellious thing they get up to is pissing down an alleyway.

High class goods at rock bottom prices

Low class food at sky high prices

Contray to the evidence here, this hotel is open for business.

    For the dudes.

Gateway to other parts of Cornwall

    Three views of Tolcarne beach

    Junk food

    Retirement home.

how is it that whilst the british coastline is pretty well unbeatable for beauty, nearly all british coastal resorts look so unappealing, so miserable, so downmarket, so depressing, so poor and so unwelcoming ?

Given the age of most of the bowling club members I thought the graveyard was a good compromise.

that may be so, but i'm trying hard to think of a british resort town (apart from the chocolate box little fishing coves) that could be said to be truly appealing and make you feel good when you arrive.

they all look so down at heel.

Next time can you get a pic of the HSBC bank please Pat?

    9, Bank Street
    TR7 1EG

Thats where I have had my UK bank account since I joined the Griffin Junior Savers club back in my first year at secondary school.

Not to mention the beach made of rocks and the freezing cold water.

Jeez no wonder all the poms are either in Thailand or Perth.

    Besides that, nice pics Pat.

Even on the hottest muthafuckin' heatwave day at the height of summer, the water is still as freezing cold as ice.

Surfer dudes will say ''best time to go in the water is early evening when the sun sets at water level, it's really warm''
Then I think, how much sea water have they ingested? It's still the f**king same termperature.

Swam only once, last year and got caught in a riptide, had to use all my strength to get myself back close to the shore.

    Never again.

I have very fond memories of Lusty Glaze Beach just up the road from Newquay. My aunt had a house there and we spent many wonderful holidays body surfing and digging holes in the sand.

Nearly died as a teenager, walking along the beachline; the water comes in mighty quickly...

    Edit to add: there.
