| It wouldn't have been easy, plenty of wild animals to compete with for existence. Those we can relate to such as bears and wolves, would have been bad enough. ![]() Caves would have been a very important place to take shelter, relax and plan for tomorrow. ![]() Looking from the cave, the views had tremendous significance. Look out points, places to chase the wild animals hoping they would crash to the rocks below the cliffs. A decent stretch of river for fishing. Come on Flobo, make me a big Reindeer Butty and a few chips. ![]() The views have changed. We have this habit via spare time creating all sorts of fancy things. ![]() Well, with Tesco and Waitrose around the corner, who's going out with a big spear looking for Reindeer. We don't need to look for caves either. We build them. ![]() And then some more. ![]() Well, we like the thought of eternal life. It gets more interesting too. ![]() Sometimes, I look at the present and think of the past. Roads, Cars, Newspapers, Television Electricity Gas Running Water Sewers Super-stores Made to measure clothes. Witch doctors with antibiotics Where do you go to my Lovely. We haven't half made it all very complicated.

| It's another outstanding valley of spectacular views. ![]() Flobo took quite a selection of photographs as well. All of these on this post are hers, I'm quite impressed by her standards. She certainly takes a great deal more time in selecting the shot than I do, talking about what she is trying to attain. She's talking about taking up painting this winter, I hope she keeps to it. She's very artistic, lets see what winter brings. I'll take her to the art shop in the next week or two to get her the basics. They'll be additional material for the thread. ![]() Lion's Head Rock, the above is referred to. She's been going through some of the photographs we have taken and plans to copy from a few of them. These next few, I rather thought to be fantastic photographs. ![]() The above is outstanding, what a scene. We are so fortunate to have these modern day digital cameras to take with us. Imagine trying this with film roll and additional development costs. It would spoil the day. It's a real privilege to be witness to such scenes, Brilliant. ![]() Wouldn't that be a beautiful spot to sit down and fish. Maybe it's just me, but I think she is doing a great job with her little camera. Good on yer lass. This one too. ![]() Probably better. In fact, this looks magical. Makes a really spectacular desk-top background. Flobo reckons she can paint that. ![]() Nice one of the cave too. You can run riot with thought and imagination turning these views back a few thousand years or so. Reality rules of course. ![]() Hey Mathos, just get her to paint us will you. Prime Beef here mate! Back to life Back to reality. It's good to meander though. |

| Nice Village here. Hayfield. The balcony here looked somewhat suspect, but no doubt it met regulations. ![]() It was interesting around the backs of the private residences especially noting how they had been built on the River bank. ![]() Must be nice to sit out on a summers evening especially. Then again, correctly dressed any time of the year would be a pleasure. "Nice hot toddy on a snowy winters evening." Life's what you make it. ![]() Can you see the Heron over on the banking by the house? You wouldn't want to be having a pint or two over the eight and be taking a walk over the weir here turned 10pm on a winters night. ![]() Gorgeous setting though. I was impressed with the same. ![]() Certainly no shortages of property built on the River side. They have a really brilliant location, I couldn't help but wonder as to dampness being a regular problem though. Maybe not. ![]() There were an odd one or two with a few sand bags close to the rear doors. Maybe very high water is a regular problem. Certainly the River Sett was fast flowing in several places along the village route. It was extremely attractive though. ![]() Nice slipway as well. When the weather is right There's nothing so nice As messing about on 'The River' ![]() Another storm across the valley Clouds are rolling in The afternoon is heavy On my shoulders. It's easy to get carried away on days like these. I was jokingh about crossing the weir above, just heard a young lad was swept out to sea at Blackpool last night. He was on a night out with friends. It's sad, only 18 years old. RIP Nice link here, well worth clicking onto. Hayfield, Derbyshire. A former mill village nestling below Kinder ... | I thought I recognised that bit of Derbyshire (Ravens Torr if I'm not wrong), been there recently, interested in Knoll of Limestone that formed by Cynobactrial mats of blue green algae in the Carboniferous (Stromatolites, if you don't mind). Cheers |

| Mathos, I hope you don't mind, but I've "grabbed" your picture of the country lane (at very top of the first page I think) for my desktop. It so reminds me of my childhood holidays in Lancashire, when we used to stay on a farm in the middle of nowhere. As young kids, my brother and I used to walk for what seemed like miles and miles down lanes just like that. A truly beautiful part of the world, given the right weather! Sue |

I don't mind one bit SLKH. You are bang on with Ravens Tor as well. Anything that creates an interest or a bit of pleasure has to be beneficial. Cheers Pal, nice to know you read the thread. Last edited by Mathos : 07-10-2009 at 03:14 AM.

You too Sue and welcome to TeakDoor. I don't mind you using the photograph at all, in fact I'm glad you find it worthy of using as a desk-top. Again, it's kind of special when a memory is rekindled, more so if it's a good memory and your reflection on the past sounded full of joy. That makes a lot of things more than worth while. It's somewhat akin to a clear reflection in water, memories are made of things like this. Reminds me of some of the tales Flobo reflects on from her childhood, holidaying in a caravan by the coast at Cockerham Sands ![]() Special. Really nice to see a new face (so to speak) reading the thread. Mathos.

| Some of the spots we come across from time to time are amazingly attractive. Autumn on the offering right now means we lose a considerable amount of the seasonal verdancy. ![]() It's still very nice to look at though. A few more weeks and all the leaves will have fallen, the plants and grasses die back, it's a totally different picture. ![]() Still plenty of beauty on a different sighting though. ![]() You cannot see down country lanes like this once the trees start sprouting. ![]() Flobo getting blown about in the windy winter. I'll get battered for putting that on. Sorry Flobo. ![]() ![]() But it's all so super. This is a great Country Lane. ![]() You have to watch these bends as well. |

| People bridges. ![]() Quite a bridge to construct out of stone across the River Sett. At Milldale you cross the packhorse bridge now known as Viator's Bridge, named after a character from Isaac Walton's book the Complete Angler. ![]() Well marked for the users benefit. I think it's great how they go to so much trouble in making sure all the i's are dotted and the t's are crossed. This is a brilliant link, it has quite a bit of information on regarding Ravens Tor as well SLKH. You might find this of interest. | Mathos, I've made a decision to only read your thread in the afternoon from now on, as those pics of pub grub made me unusually hungry by midday yesterday! I ended up going out for lunch with a colleague of mine, and having cottage pie, something I haven't had in ages! Warning! This thread is wonderful, but very bad for anyone on a diet! Sue. |

Would I mention perfect locations for fishing? How do you like the Bridge on this photograph? ![]() The water looked good too. ![]() Special, but I think you needed a permit to try and hook Salmon. ![]() ![]() Some nice coastal sites came highly recommended. ![]() Spectacular in all aspects. Nice to see you up and running Happyman. I gather it's all systems go now with the new location? Take care 'Old Friend'

| Had a lot to catch up on at home this week, so we didn't go out yesterday. ![]() Mind you, there's plenty to admire simply having a run out to pick Flobo some wild bird seed up for the winter. ![]() So much, and so close to home. ![]() I do believe this Street in Croston Lancashire is one of the most photographed streets in the UK. Super little village in all aspects. ![]() I came across a photograph here, which I hadn't marked up, and can't remember for the life of me, where it was. ![]() It'll come in due course. Nice looking Pub as well. ![]() Nice, exceptionally nice Spring Day in England. That was taken around The Cotswolds in May this year. How time passes. |

| Still not enough hours in the day this week. In the middle of painting and decorating the main hallway landing and stairs plus one bedroom at present. Plus trying to get a load of jobs done outside, the number of leaves dropping all over the place and over a thousand bulbs delivered on Monday last. I forgot I'd ordered those. One of my grandsons undergoing a fourteen week Military Preparation Course and he's just had an appraisal for his first four weeks. Doing well. Obtained some very high scores and although he's not made his mind up with regards to signing on as yet, it's all beneficial to him. His fitness levels are amazing. He was a good amateur boxer as well, but as he approached his mid teens, he found more to do with his time. Like you do! The one who is currently boxing is working hard at his training and has a contest lined up for later this month. It keeps me busy looking after them. So when I had a few minutes to check about three days post this afternoon, I was surprised to see 'Christmas Bumph' on my desk already. It hardly seems possible that Christmas can only be a matter of eleven weeks as per yesterday, (Yesterday being Thursday 8th Oct.) here in the UK. ![]() Judy Goodman's Christmas Goose looks superb. Two little treats I came across here on checking the 'goodies' which have to be included in my 'Christmas Wish List.' ![]() Real quality food and super additions as you can see on the above photograph. I must say it's great to be home for Christmas. We have spent quite a few out East. They are not the same in our honest opinions. A few years back we were high in the mountains, miles and miles away from any form of civilisation. If I remember correctly Christmas Day Dinner was a few crisps and some sponge type cake, with possible tea, but more than likely water. We were on our way towards The Yunnan Territories here. Some outpost in N.T. ![]() Only seems like yesterday. Probably just because you get more familiar with seeing Elephants as years progress. But in those days, they certainly appeared to be far larger beasts than they come across now. ![]() Working elephants here up in The North. ![]() Years can be a real pain in the arse at times! Just came across one of Flobo crossing a river on a man made teak log tree trunk. We have done a few of these over the years. This particular one had been blessed with foot holes being chopped into the same, in the wet season, or following a shower or morning dew even, the same can be treacherous. ![]() Just to let you see we haven't always been golden oldies either, this one is a few years back taken in Mae Sarian after a few days in no mans land. ![]() This is one of the pair of us, bright and early one morning, This one was in or very close to the Burmese border high in the hills . There are times when you very easily loose your bearings out there, believe me, even with a compass . ![]() We were singing We were Dancing The Band was really happening The place was dead as heaven On a Saturday night. ![]() Ah Yes! I remember it well. Last edited by Mathos : 10-10-2009 at 06:27 AM. |

| ![]() My PC went on a wobbler last night, so I dropped it into PC World today. The Hard Drive has a fault. Just using the laptop and I don't like it one bit, still there's a good food photograph to feast the eyes on. Relly is superb bacon as well. Not had any of those bacon chops for a while either, now they really are tasty. |

| Just thought I'd flick through a few snaps for a while, whilst messing about on the Laptop. ![]() Skipton looked appealing from an armchair point of view, as well as the reality of it's authentic existence of course. ![]() PC World telephoned me earlier today, the comp has had it's day. I'll have to buy another. Three years out of that one though and it's done a fair amount of work, it cost me about £525..00 when I bought it new, so probably not a bad return, all in all. |
