| We noticed the caravan in a really nice spot high on the moors. ![]() It did look somewhat out of place, we then noticed the Council Planning notice which informed us that the same had been sited without planning consent. A retrospective planning application had been made, for the caravan to remain also the septic tank plus boundary fence. ![]() I very much doubt permission being granted. It would set a precedent, which could lead to thousands of such units littering the landscapes throughout such locations. Sorry! But in my book, it has to be removed. Nice spot here as well. Attractive weir, pleasant pedestrian route by the river, not forgetting the ducks of course. ![]() Apparently it gets quite fierce when the rains have been heavy. Very pleasant. ![]() Most town and village pubs now have a beer garden come dining area out back nowadays. Mainly for the smokers.

| We came across this long since abondoned and really dilapidated building. ![]() Fantastic spot for a total knock down and rebuild. ![]() Left like this for a few more years, nature will take over well and truly. ![]() There's enough stone in the main building and out building to use in the construction of a brand new home. ![]() It was quite a big spread. ![]() Probably a story about how it got into this state. The views across the land were quite spectacular. ![]() I rather suspected many of the thick roof flags had been nicked. ![]() Amazing how the inner walls on these buildings are more rubble than anything else. ![]() It wasn't all that far from Midgley either. ![]() The area in general was very attractive. ![]() Country Lanes like this are superb. Got to be careful with the driving of course. ![]() Really nice. |

| Cheers Nietzsche, it is a decent pub, nice location, good selection of beer if I'm not mistaken and quite good on the food scene. Always appear to have a decent crowd of folk in there. The floating bar on the canal suits the dining smokers. Flobo likes a seat there. |

| The area in general is really attractive. ![]() Two bonny horses here. ![]() The bar/lounge menu in the Rams Head was decent, prices came across as being OK too. ![]() The place in general was very attractive, well presented and maintained. ![]() It spoke for itself. ![]() I didn't photograph the shop or the café area, but it was all done to a high standard. Flobo bought a few bits and pieces from the shop and we enjoyed a couple of nice milky coffees. Pubs in general are having to find ways to attract additional income. If they want to survive they are obliged to. ![]() There won't be much in the way of local trade either, so it will be a question of pulling in folk from outlying areas. The main menu, and the dining room were mouth watering brilliant. It will be worth a visit in the future for a decent meal. ![]() Have to remember the way though. Flobo thinks she read an article on the same some months back in The Yorkshire or Lancashire Life. They are cracking magazines by the way. Well worth the annual fee to have them delivered direct. Good savings on Newsagent prices. Last edited by Mathos : 20-07-2009 at 05:47 AM. |

| With a few mates. Tony, Eddie, Bob, Dave, Alan, we cycled up to these places most Sundays., ![]() We appreciated the beauty then even. Sixty to eighty miles on a push bike every Sunday was normal. | Had a nice drive out today, we wanted to visit a well spoken of village in West Yorkshire. Wentworth. ![]() It rained very heavily most of the day. The rain drops on the twigs of the above photograph looked kind of attractive. Flobo took that, she's enjoying playing about with her camera. The house in the distance, is a rather unique 'Round House' perhaps an old converted mill. I don't know the history on it, but it looked rather nice. ![]() We didn't want to be over intrusive taking photographs, but it was a really nice specimen, well maintained. Neat. There were some old and attractive cottages on the approach to the village. ![]() Must say the roof on the middle one here looked rather suspect. You wouldn't want many falls of heavy snow to add to the weight of the slates, that's for sure. |

Hi Happyman. It's on the main road about a mile or so to the west side of the hamlet of Wentworth, West Yorkshire. A really nice looking tower it was, the house conversion had me astounded, it looked beautiful. If you need road details, let me know I'll be able to sort them out for you. (I think) Have to be careful taking photographs of private houses though. I took some on The Fylde Coast last year and must have alarmed one occupant. We received a visit from a WPC a couple of days later, the occupant had taken the vehicle Regd. No. and made a complaint. The WPC told me I should knock and ask permission prior to doing same again. Seems a bit daft, but I can see it from the occupants point of view. I showed her the thread. She came to me in town a couple of weeks or so later. (not in uniform) 'Hey Mathos.. Oh Dear... | |

| In Wentworth itself, the George and Dragon and Rockingham Arms pubs are justifiably popular (and usually very busy!). Both serve a wide range of food and drink. The "George" is a particular favourite of real ale enthusiasts and recently won the local CAMRA Pub of the Year award; we recommend the award-winning WPA ("woppa") produced by Wentworth's own village brewery!Nearby, you might also like to try the recently-refurbished Horseshoe at Harley, the Bay Horse at Scholes, the Norfolk Arms near Hood Hill (very popular for its food) or the Commercial in Chapeltown (another good real ale pub). A little information I found on The Net. All interesting. Everything below is my own source. ![]() That's a rather unique and somewhat special if not unique building. We really like the same. ![]() The village 'General Store' was a specimen. Aren't we so lucky having beauty like this on our doorstep. ![]() It's quite brilliant. And did those feet in ancient time Walk upon England's mountains green? And was the holy Lamb of God On England's pleasant pastures seen? And did the Countenance Divine Shine forth upon our clouded hills? And was Jerusalem builded here Among those dark Satanic mills? Bring me my bow of burning gold: Bring me my arrows of desire: Bring me my spear: O clouds, unfold! Bring me my chariot of fire! I will not cease from mental fight, Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand Till we have built Jerusalem In England's green and pleasant land I'm thinking this was penned by Blake. William Blake. God, this country has some brilliant folk to think about. ![]() And places along with the views. Hasn't it. You cannot touch it. |
