The Greatest City on Earth?
-
Why, I hear you ask, could this shithole in the North of England be considered a great city?
I will tell you.
First, I'm going to give you a tour of the city & show you the sights.
-
Sydney feels strangely insecure.
-
We house the two greatest football teams on the planet.
The Reds (indicated by red arrow)

The Blues (indicated by blue arrow)

Let's not forget that the Blues are owned by everybody's favourite crook - Khun Toxin.
-
I dated a chick from Huddersfield and she was fokking mental, I heard that the once from Manchester are even worse.:)...so SO, what can posible be great about that city ???
-
Manchester is a bunch of little areas, all seperate like The Warriors city.
Sale, Mosside, Wythenshaw, Stretford, Chorlton - all the way up to flat cap n'vowels country.
-
Toxin got himself quite a nice stadium for his millions, although it is only leased to him.

He also hired Sven & despite him being a twat, he's doing okay in the league & has been - temporarily - elevated to hero status for his efforts. If you go to a place called Puccini for a meal, on any night of the week, it's a fair bet you'll see Sven, usually with some trollop or other.
Toxin - who has been nicknamed Frank (after Sinatra) by the fans - is never seen out on the town but also enjoys temoporary hero status. The only time I have seen him is when he laid on his concert with free food, details & pictures of which can be seen here, courtesy of some big-hearted member who took the trouble to post it.

Oasis concerts are a good night out for all the family

All that's well & good, I hear you say, but what has Manchester done to benefit the world?
For starters, we invented the computer, without which, none of us would be in the chair we are sitting in right now.
https://teakdoor.com/images/smilies1/You_Rock_Emoticon.gif
We also invented the world's first :
Mechanically driven submarine
Thread twisting machine, known as the now-celebrated Flying Shuttle
The famous Spinning Mule
Sir Henry Royce & Charles Rolls concieved, what remains to this day, the world's greatest car at the Midland Hotel
https://teakdoor.com/images/smilies1/You_Rock_Emoticon.gif
I'm not here to tell you how great Manchester used to be. The fact we were inventing things to sell around the world before countries like America were even formed speaks for itself. I'm here to convince you what a great place Manchester is now.

Yeah great thread mate. One of my aunts married a footy player from Manchester, they are now living in Ipswich west of Brisbane, Australia. Happy as a pig in shit he is. Always made me wonder what Manchester was like. More please :).

On 15th June, 1996, the IRA decided to blow Manchester to pieces & they did a pretty good job of it.

It was the best thing that could have happened to what was rapidly becoming a decaying city. Billions has been spent on rebuilding. Where there used to be Burger King, we now have Selfridges & where there was a shitty market, we now have a state-of-the-art shopping complex & things like that.
This is the same area today. Notice the Harvey Nicholls? They would never have set up shop here before.

I have some council CCTV footage of the main shopping street in town, known as Market St. On this particular day, some nice people from a neighbouring town came to pay us a little visit.

This is the place looking a little more civilised.

Although it hardly rivals Sydney Opera house, we have our own thing called the Bridgewater Hall, for - both of - the cultured people in Manchester. I worked here for a short while. Salmon Rushdie (with bodyguards) was doing a book signing there not long ago).

Now that is a proper sized Mexican restaurant :)

Obviously, in real-life, it isn't called the Chatsworth estate. It is called West Gorton & I am sad to announce that this is where I actually reside. If you think the TV show was outrageous, you want to try living here :(
They don't actually film it here any more. They have a purpose built set in Wythenshawe now, because the kids used to throw bricks & such at the crew while they were filming. Here is a map of the 'Chatsworth' estate.
I have circled some landmarks people who watch the show will be very familiar with.

Red - the Jockey pub. It is actually called The Aces in real life & has been burnt down now.
Blue - the flats that you see on the skyline.
Orange - the houses where Frank & co used to live.
I would nip out & take some photographs of the actual places, but the only people who wander the streets with a camera round here are people working undercover, like the police or the DSS & I would likely get my head kicked in if I'm spotted.

I liked the look of Market Street before -why did they F*ck it up and make it the same as any other boring shopping street in any other boring town ?

A good way to gauge a city is to look at the local newspaper - we have the Manchester Evening News.

Let's have a look at some headlines...

Gunmen March Through Streets
A GANG of 25 men dressed all in black and carrying guns marched through Manchester streets - triggering a massive police operation.
It is understood that police received 999 calls from five different witnesses in different streets shortly before 4pm yesterday.
Several callers said that shots had been fired, but there were no reports of any injuries.
Police are still trying to establish what was behind the incident and are investigating whether it was an organised show of strength by a gang.
The first sighting of the `army' was on Withington Road in Moss Side, and later calls came from Carlton Road, Whalley Range, and Yarburgh Street, Great Western Street, and Barleycroft Street, near Alexandra Park.
The police response was immediate and huge, with 12 armed officers sent to the scene, backed up by 14 non-armed officers and four dog handlers and a further 37 officers put on standby.
But when police reached the area, the men in black appeared to have melted away.
More than 250 police raided the homes of suspected gang members around the region last week as part of a national day of action against gun gangs.
Christmas Crackdown On Thugs
A CHRISTMAS crackdown on violent town-centre thugs has led to 18 arrests.
Operation Simnel was launched two weeks ago in an attempt to stamp out violence fuelled by drink and drugs at weekends.
Officers have seized 150 ecstasy tablets, cannabis, cocaine and two knives.
Arrests have been made for offences including public order, possession of drugs and possession of a weapon.
Insp Brian Nicholls said the operation aimed to tackle the key causes of violence by targetting those involved with drugs and encouraing licensees to promote responsible drinking.
Theft Shame of a Carer
A CARER entrusted with the money of a man with severe learning difficulties stole more than £2,000 to fund his cocaine habit.
Robert Devereux, 39, was looking after Clifford Tatton, 59, who has `no concept of the value of money.'
Devereux, of Newton Street, Macclesfield, repeatedly stole from him as his drug problem spiralled.
The judge at Chester Crown Court described Devereux's crimes as `despicable' and said he had abused Mr Tatton's trust in the `most gross way.'
Devereux had pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to fraud, five theft offences, and 24 other offences which he asked to be considered.
After jailing Devereux for nine months for each offence, to run concurrently, Judge Roger Dutton told him: "You have committed a serious and despicable offence against a man who deserved to have decent and honest support.
Gun Raid Caught on CCTV
THIS is the terrifying moment a masked thug put a gun to the head of a shop worker.
The brave 34-year-old victim wrestled with two robbers and managed to activate an alarm.
He was left badly shaken by the incident and had a minor injury to his hand.
But despite his traumatic ordeal, he still chased after the two robbers as they ran out of the door.
Police said the robbers struck at Chorlton Green Off Licence in Ivygreen Road, Chorlton at about 9pm on Monday.
One raider had a handgun and his accomplice was carrying what appeared to be a firearm wrapped in a plastic bag.
Detectives have now released CCTV footage of the incident in a bid to identify the men who ran off towards Kings Hill Road after the alarm was triggered.
Watch the robbery on the link below.
