Chitty's Chester Cavort
Chester is a city in northwest England, founded as a Roman fortress in the 1st century A.D. It's known for its extensive Roman walls made of local red sandstone. In the old city, the Rows is a shopping district distinguished by 2-level covered arcades and Tudor-style half-timber buildings. A Roman amphitheatre, with ongoing excavations, lies just outside the old city's walls.
Pictures to follow later when i return.
Hail Chitty:)

Loads of history and a great time to visit as the city is full of stag and hen parties at the weekend.
Understandable as there are some excellent pubs..
This funny looking hospital probably does good business at the weekend.

The city walls surround the pubs and cathedral .

Logistically the Romans had it sorted on the banks of the river Dee.

Let's get this party started, seeing as though it's my birthday we'll have a half in as many pubs as possible! This boozer is over 500 years old and has resident ghosts..

Suitably refreshing and having acquired a raging thirst for the local old world ales, it was time to explore and leave the ghosts behind:)

good day out Chester, though I usually lose half of it at the bloody outlet at cheshire oaks with the wife
the Spud U like has a 2000 year old roman bath house in the basement which always struck me as a tad unusual

My first ever school trip as a child in Manchester was to Chester, remember we were on a boat on the river, and how good Chester Zoo was.

Welcome to The Black Lion
Nestled snuggly in the heart of Churnet Valley lies the Black Lion Pub, a fine example of Staffordshire tradition, a real delight to discover. When sat in the Beer Garden of this wonderful pub you really begin to appreciate how beautiful the Staffordshire countryside is.
Getting to the Black Lion takes you across the canal and over the Churnet Valley Railway line with Consall station approximately 100yds away and in full view from the beer garden. The canal, snaking underneath the railway line, coupled with the pleasant roar of the river falling over a weir and the wonderful tree clad valley sides it is a heavenly place to sit and relax.
Finding us is really quiet straightforward though it does look difficult. By road you can take the A52 from Stoke-on-Trent and head out towards Cellar Head/ Kingsley Moor. Once past Cellarhead you take the A522 and head up towards Wetley Rocks. Either the first or the second right will take you into Consall village and from there follow the signs for the Black Lion. There is a car park for the pub which is a short walk over the canal and the railway line which could potentially be a problem for the more disabled customer.

Great stuff , used to wlak their over the snowy fields, on one famous day armed only with a couple of quid and 20 Park Drive cigarettes we discovered the pub had only 1 ale (may have been Joules of Stone in them days)and no fags so we placed our supply on the bar and were given free beer all lunchtime by the desperate tokers, like Mathos' beautiful Lancashire most counties have lovely places away from the industrial grime.
For those wishng to visit the "British Isles", Yorkshire,Kerry,Antrim,Powys, Hereford, Derbyshire,Cornwall and Sussex and Cumbria are famous but your Cheshire , Shropshire and of coures all of Scotland my favourites being the floe country, Orkneys, and South Uist, and in almost anyweher beyonf the coalfields of Wales .The real hidden gem is Tresco
Amazing sub-tropical plants of Tresco Abbey Gardens: in pictures
