Good, coz I tend to turn up with an appetite. The petrol station garage in Petersfield yesterday was nothing short of ransacked.

Let the train take the strain

Out of action with a bunged-up botty and a cold I've had to use my least favoured method of travelling to work - the train. Outside of peak hours it isn't too terrible, but when the shuffling masses all clamber aboard the same carriage, vying for the only available seat in five fucking miles, it does tend to test one's patience.

With this is mind I was sure to leave the office early yesterday so to avoid the rush. It also afforded me the opportunity to take an evening stroll along the river.

A beautifully quiet platform...



An even quieter carriage...



Forgot a pen and couldn't spank the Evening Standard crossword as usual...



Onto the river and a flotilla of honking geese...



A heron - look into the eye, not around the eye...



A deer over yonder...

A pleasant trip home if there ever was one.

^Do you live in the country or in a town cluster? I suppose those deer have never seen anyone dressed in camo or heard a shot from a 30-30 before? Rural paradise Slap! At least this time of the year...you always make me feel better with this thread when I think back on all the years traveling to and from work in various locations. Must have a zillion hours wasted in commutes...

No, we don't do that here. Although we aren't averse to bit of roasted venison every now and then.

I suppose not since it was part of the overall effort to earn a living. Life riding the BART Trains back and forth across the bay daily sure got tedious. Not a lot of Dollies on those trains before 05:00 and after 21:00...long days in those times. Must have done the x-word puzzles at least twice a week, read the S.F. Chronicle from front to rear a couple times per day, finally being reduced to reading the "classifieds," and thinking about getting up to North Beach for a lap dance or two numerous times while reading the advert for Topless dancers and Lap Dancers Wanted.

In the M.E. the commutes were pretty bland. Sand, desert more sand more desert...camel, desert, more sand...ah job site...more sand and desert with the occasional top half of a ship passing by down the Red Sea...

Lunch times were the best part of working in the City...loads of places to try out, lots of skirts to dazzle the eye, every so often a three martini lunch merging into an all nighter...not all bad Slap and entertaining some times.

After spending such a long time abroad - particularly in Asia - things in the West are oh so very ordinary. Things are different now. And I think it takes complete immersion in a different culture to appreciate this.

I'd really like to see more photos of the UK's countryside and beach/ocean landscapes. One of my biggest surprises was traveling across France and seeing how beautiful their country setting were. Switzerland as well, absolutely beautiful.

Three weeks out of action and any fitness I had acquired has officially fucked off.

60 off-road miles yesterday on the cyclo-cross bike has left me borderline disabled. I was nearly resigned at one point to cut my losses and hole-up in a field for the night.

Stopping off for lunch I opted for a Thai prawn salad. It's a prawn salad with a bit of fucking lime in it. For nine cunting quid.



The sun was shining in England this weekend...

Farmland is easy on the eye at this time of the year...
