    Cornwall weather photos

Our rail link has been severed by the recent weather:

The coastal rail route at Dawlish in Devon:

    From this:

    To this:

(All following pictures taken by me)

Anyway my plan to visit St. Ives was abandoned when the bus premarturely terminated at Camborne, and I'd already been freaked out by some graffiti:

    Toilet's quite impressive

The train crawled into Penzance at about 2mph taking us 15 minutes to travel the last mile to the terminus, this was why:

In the distance should have been a view of St. Michaels Mount, but visibility was pretty poor.

When it eased slightly I turned right and headed into town via the car park which was fast being submerged

    Usual crappy UK town centre

All trains back were cancelled, so they laid on a bus replacement service. Tomorrow I may attempt to visit Porthleven, which has so far had the highest waves, up to 100ft apparently. (Google some pics)

Yeah I did catch myself in the mirror as the shutter clicked. I had nothing much else to do as we crawled along at 1mph along submerged tracks

You wait til I get some Portreath pictures tomorrow. That place is awesome at the calmest of times and it's only 3 miles from here.

Whoever did decide to build a coastal railway must have been stoned at the time.

If I'd seen this thread before your attempt at cooking, I'd have greened you!

I see your ticket has been a bit promiscuous. It's got an STD in the corner. Nasty.

Unless the sea is calm and the sun is shinning. In which case he was a genius?

    Wicked weather everywhere it seems.
I never made it to southern England, but it looks like a nice place from the pics that I've seen (not these high waves though).

Nice pics (apart from the artfully done shaky ones, Pat ). The difference in Cornwall in just a few short months is really something. A couple of weeks ago, we saw pictures on the web of Looe (where we stayed in November) underwater, too.

    Brings back some memories ...

Loved the Dawlish part of the route, especially if waves went over the train, which was more often than not in the non-summer months. Most of the delays I remember were caused by the trains hitting cows on the line. Made an awful mess!

There was a train that went from Penzance to Inverness (18 hours I think it took) back in the 70's/80's. I was stuck on it at Loch Ness in a snow storm many years ago.

If it's like that in Cornwall I wonder how the Scilly Isles are getting on?

    Thanks for sharing.
