Lostandfound becomes a UK holiday letter

I had a call out the blue a couple of years ago from my UK business partner. Despite having only ever spent two nights ever in Cheltenham, and pissed most of the time at John Gordon's whisky emporium, I was talked into buying half a run down b and b.

The establishment boasted fine English features like Dolphin showers, laminate wood palstic floors and saggy mattresses. The partitioning inside the Regency building reminded me of upstairs at certain party holes in Bangkok, circa 1990.

After a great deal of work and god knows how many mistakes - it's now been launched as a posh holiday rental in Cheltenham for parties.

The decor is, I admit, a bit louche. I have already had to turn down a company who arrange up market swappers parties who wanted to make it their Cheltenham regular.

I didn't mean to be rude, but from my first view it looks a bit odd.

Too many bits and bobs and things that clutter and can get broken.

It's a house again - we kept the licence and stuff like that - so we can do receptions for corporates at festivals and race week. Otherwise its a house that you rent with daily maid service and chef if you pay extra

I didn't want it to be vanilla, so got that right, at least. Its a bit quirky - the footstall in the master bedroom is an unrestored Chippendale - we just stuck an Irish silk linen cushion on it. It's kind of arty in a let's get pissed and have 70 friends round kind of way

Behind the scenes its all 21st c - biomass boiler, solar, intelliegent lighting. It was centre piece of Cheltenham eco-hab exhibition last year to showcase sustainable building and energy efficient new labour ideas..

All the furniture is recycled - albeit antiques from William IV to Edwardian
