American Speedfest - Brands Hatch - Kent.

On Sunday, we went to the American Speedfest at Brands Hatch in Kent. It was an American themed race day come car show, with the highlight being 2 races from the Euro Racecar NASCAR series. The weather as usual did its best to ruin the day, but no rain so can't complain. Here are some photos.

We started the day with a pit walk. A chance to walk along the race track and down in to pit lane and have a nose about.

As well as the usual monster truck display which I have seen 30 times before (I'm still yet to watch them race side by side as they do in the states though) today they had a passenger taking monster truck which I had never seen before. It was more fun than you would imagine.

The first race we watched from the grandstand was the pick up trucks. (Photos get a bit better later as I remember to change the shutter speed)

Before the first Eurocar NASCAR race we went for a grid walk, but it was pretty pointless as every man and his dog was already there.

Managed to squeeze through to see what the fuss was about and caught a glimse of one of the drivers signing autographs. He looked about 12 years old!!

    The safety car.

Nice thread. Some great cars there. Are those monster trucks based in the UK? Or did they come over from the states?

Cheers. Both trucks are based in the UK. The Swamp Thing has been on the scene at car shows and race days for years, but I'd never seen the other one before.

I've seen the display routine so many times before it doesn't do a great deal for me, watched it for my sons benefit, but the first chance I get to watch a proper monster truck meeting where they are the main event, racing each other competitively, I'll definitely check it out.

Would have seen you there if it wasnt so poxy cold !

Seen some of those old beasts racing round Daytona I know they sing a bit over there not sure what kinda noise the namby pamby brigade would allow for our delicate little ears in the UK

Nice pics , looks like you stand in similar places to me at Brands

^ you need to clean the fluff out of it then or get a better connection.

Excellent effort Abelour. I don't think Nascar is suited to Brands, but it looks like what was going on off the track was just as big an attraction. Would love to have seen the classic car race, the engine noise must have been fantastic!
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

It was chilly mate. Typical England, the weather's good for the whole week leading up to a Sunday and a day out, then turns shit. The misses spent most of the day in the bar, she was frozen and she's pretty good with the cold these days.

Well I did kind of. Something Natalie mentioned recently as well. I did split it up in to about 12 posts instead of the one big fuck off one I normally do.

The thing is, it's the whole page that's loading so it doesn't matter how many photos are in each post, it will still take the same time surely? The only option would be to have less photos all together.

I think Neo is right, you need a better connection mate.

No it's not at all mate you're right, it was more an exhibition than anything. Although having said that they were going for it & not just poodling about, quite a few crashes.

Yeh, it was a really good effort by the car owners/clubs. There was at least another 150 cars on the other side of the track which we didn't even get time to look at.

Hi Aberlour. I was racing the blue and grey 67 Camaro at the Speedfest. Did you happen to get any pictures of the races? In race two, myself and the green challenger crossed the line side by side, which is really what I'm looking for!! If you can spread the word too, that would be ideal! many thanks, and I hope you enjoyed the day.

    Tom.

^ I didn't I'm afraid mate. I was with my 5 year old son so I spent just as much time in the fun fair area as I did watching races.

Surely there were official photographers there that can be contacted via Brands?

I see that the free PhotoBucket account isn't worth a wank then!

I assumed it was a set amount of storage you had before you needed to pay, but it turns out it's the bandwith used when the photos are viewed on-line.

I've only used 3% of my free storage but have already exceeded my badwith, so photos are starting to disappear already.
