A weekend,s racing at Cadwell Park + extra,s pic thread

One thing I will miss for sure when I upsticks from the UK is the amount of motorbike racing meetings I attend during the course of the year ,, never mind that is just one aspect of the bigger picture , so whilst I am still here I love to make the most of it !

Now this weekend I want to share with you one of our little jaunts and some other observations along the way just to give you a little insight a bit as to what is involved , especially in the areas local to the track .

So today Sunday 26th May we are off to Lincolnshire up close to Louth where the wonderfull Cadwell Park track lies on an undulating park land full of trees , a truly wonderful setting .

Anyway a note and an observation before we go ,,, after pre buying our tickets online + paying for our B+B already ,, last week I lent my car out to one of my " friends ? " to move some turf in my boot , because his car is nice and new and clean and mine is an old banger . I told him to do the job in at least 2 loads ,, he did it in one , the old gal was banging a bit in the rear end the last couple of days and when I took a look underneath , er

    [/IMG]

Yeah I wasnt best pleased to say the least , but the weather is so good for the first time in ages so were going ! ( carefully ) more on that later .

BTW this is how a non broken spring looks like correctly located .

    [/IMG]

On this journey we travel through 4 counties leaving Essex through Suffolk , here we are going through Thetford forest .

    [/IMG]

Onwards up into Norfolk leaving Kings Lynn heading west towards Sutton Bridge

    [/IMG]

BTW Jan is operating the camera whilst I,m driving ,, then we head on up to Boston ,, now Jan will faff around with the bloody camera at times instead of click click she ums and ar,s and the moment is gone so we have just one shot from Boston

    [/IMG]

Now at this point I have a video to put in here BUT it aint ready yet so you will have to wait till I sort it a bit later .
Anyway we have arrived we made it in 4 hours not bad 180 miles taking it steady + stopping for fuel and sarnies along the way ,, here we set ourselves up on the sunny bank of grass at the bottom of the mountain area .

    [/IMG]

Back with some more later ,, got LOTS of pics of bikes / racing / local interest pics + videos etc ,,,,,see you soon
I'm proud of my 38" waist , also proud I have never done drugs

I'm disappointed I thought it was an 'oss racing thread .
I expected photos of ladies in nice dresses , bookies , Nigel either holding a wad of cash or tearing up his betting slip , then setting his painting easel up .

    nice one Nige

Anyway, whilst we are waiting for him to wake up and post more, let's have a sweep stake on the model banger he has there.

My bet is an Austin Maxi.

Anyway onwards ,, practice is now underway , and a few folk have arrived , now this is a Thundersport club meeting , this is where you find riders starting out in the Aprillia super teens ( 125 cc ) many as young as 12 years old , right up to the Thundersport GP1,s 1000 cc .

It sure puts a lump in my throat when I see the young lads of 12 all piling in together and having so much respect for one another .

Now to give you an idea about the value of this meeting for the 2 days an online ticket will cost you 13 now for that you will potentially see 32 races over the 2 days ,, now thats fantastic value in anyone,s book ! and they even throw in a free all colour program to boot !

Looking up at the part of the track they call " The mountain " it dont look much from here but I have walked up it , believe me its more scary than it looks from here

Another great thing about this level of racing is you can access all areas to go and meet the riders etc

The lads all set up camp here for the weekend .

One of the lads I have followed for a few years now Phil Crowe , one of the most naturally talented and fastest riders out there IMO Phil should be at least in the British Superbikes and I really hope he makes it up there , this is a pic of his garage and allthough Phil is a youngster himself he is encouraging and bringing through another young talent Tom Neave beside him in a smaller class of bike

Now alongside the racing bikes we also find a selection of various beasts lying around and about ,, I wouldnt wanna pick this bugger up !

Unfortunately young Tom Neave got a little too keen at the bottom of the mountain here ,, dusted down he will be back

And so will I later ,, sorry I,m off to work now

Not a day passes when I don't think about motorbikes. I've never been to a road race meet ever so, thanks Nigel! Surprised by the low entry fee's. Look forward to your updates.

    Interesting thread Nigel.

There was a brief report on the coming
TT Races on the news earlier on.

Some outstanding riders on the Island Course.

They were saying the Races bring 23M in revenue to the island.

    That's a lot of money.

Many years since I rented a small workshop out to a lad called Simon Beck.

Really nice young lad he was and well into the racing.

Sadly, Simon lost his life on The Island.

Difficult to access TD tonight ,, mabe server prob in US ?

I,ll try to post some more , the mine,s bigger than your,s brigade were not to dissapoint

Another fine specimen I belive this was a 500 Velo many years ago I had a 350 , this was a beaut and I kept lurking for as long as the wife would allow ,, I was dying to fire it up and just record the sound from that lovely old fish tail pipe

This pic shows the beauty of the track and the lovely unlimited access you get to club events ,, we wouldnt be allowed to drive round here at a bigger meet , on the l/hand side we can see what they loosely call the straight ,, they sure get a lick on down here as long as they escape the high side trap coming out of the left hander

This is the lads screaming out of Charlies before plunging down Park Straight

One last shot from the track today as they howl off into the distance for the last time this evening ,, its been a fantastic day Phil,s got today,s GP1 safely in the bag , looking forward to tomorrow .

Sorry about the sun in this pic ( dont have to say that in England often ) this is our B+B place for tonight ,, the aptly named Nutty Cottage !

We,ve quickly checked in , quick splash and tidy its 7pm and were starving so off down the road 4 miles to the Waggon + Horses for a swift half and 2 superb gammon steak meals ,, everything 1.5 pints of Stella + the 2 meals 24.95p well pleased !

A look inside at our room 60 including 2 superb breakfasts , lovely 6 foot bed very comfy + spacious ,, unlike the en-suite cupboard ,, if I get any bigger I,ll have to bring me Phillips screwdriver to remove the doors to go to the bog .

    See I wasnt telling porkies

The next morning a cracking full English ,, now I know what your thinking ,, " no wonder that fat git " well actually the last full English I ate was exactly at this table over a year ago ! so there ,, its All bran and banana + skimmed milk for me usually ,, this is a one off .

Ok enough for tonight I,m knackered and still have lots to do ,,, tomorrow will try to post some pics of the town of Louth before we go back to the track

After that big breakfast and we have settled our bill we have time on our hands before racing starts ,, so a little look around Louth town before we go back to the track .

I thought I would take a few pics of some of these soon to be extinct institutions , this one showing beers from one of the local independent brewers Batemans

    Walking down into the town

Here,s looking back up takeaway alley , I lost count of the kebab / chip shops up here

    Another old pub

Looks like Louth may have its own " Banksy "?

Another rub a dub ,, bloody hell they must still drink some beer here

    Some real old buildings here

Interesting menu ,, wonder how fresh the " Nile perch is ? "

    I do like passageways !

One last shot of the town as we turn right out of Louth for the track

Back at the track and its bloody windy today ! a couple of shots from Chris Curve and I am afraid this is where you can see the limits of my point and shoot camera

    Going into the gooseneck

The chicane to slow these crazy boys down a bit

The new bridge we can cross the track with now instead of going over inbetween races

As well as all the sheer excitement these lads give us , we also have to realise this sport is dangerous and there is an army of helpers / stewards / medical staff to ensure these meetings go as well as possible,, and the Thundersport crew seem to have it all off to a Tee.

Now the 2 lads involved in this nasty looking incident were both ok ( eventually ) and I wouldnt have posted the pic if they wern,t .

A shot from me standing on the new bridge just after the finish line ,, Geez do they ever howl through here ,, sounds wonderful !

Thats it for tonight ,, some more tomorrow cheers

Missing what? Motorcycle racing, that's what!

I know exactly how you feel, Nigel. I miss the racing too, after been active myself for forty years. Must be over 30 years since I was at Cadwell though.
Oh well, sacrifices we must make to live in Thailand.

Ok enough of my old meanderings , the main reason we was at Cadwell was to see who is IMHO the present king of Cadwell Park a certain Mr Phil Crowe . This is what you could well call Phil,s home track as he is from not too far away in Market Drayton.

Now unfortunately I have no photos of my own of Phil so I will C + P a few in + some you tube clips from Phil to show you what the lads about .

Having said that I did go to get a couple of photos of him before he went out in his second race , but he was sitting there deep in the zone concentrating on the task ahead with his eyes closed , and I think out of respect its allways best to ask permission in a close up situation like that.

Now Phil has the lap record for his class around here GP1,s and indeed in qualifying he beat it ,, but of course it only counts during racing . Indeed he went close again in race 1 on Sunday and was confident for Monday , unfortunately the wind got up over night and took care of that . However 3 GP1 wins over the 2 day event was a fantastic result for Phil , his comment on FB on the Monday night was just something along the lines of 3 wins job done time to sleep !

Phil and his never say die attitude IMO is what make this sport stand head + shoulders above so many other so called sports prima donnas , he was riding through the pain barrier last year , and reading through his regular FB updates I never heard him complaining ,, yes frustrated for sure but he is a racer 110% and wants to ride.

He also offered a bike up for someone to give a chance last year ,, again no song and dance , just getting on with it , as he is bringing young Tom Neave along with him now.

One other thing I will say about Phil , and it,s even by his own admission his is a big lad , infact stand near to him ,, he,s a man mountain ! this also brings with it the amount of sheer physical effort it takes to maul one of these GP1 beasts around .

We have so much 2 wheel talent in our Country and unfortunately again IMO they never get the coverage the so deserve .

Ok over to Phil , take a few trips around with him

    http://i.thisis.co.uk/275584/article...84/2013574.jpg

I like to watch these videos with me laptop plugged into the sound system under the coffee table ,, allthough I doubt my neighbour appreciates it

I have just 5 people on my" help for sure " if ever my 6 numbers come in and Phil would be one of em.

A great thread Nige, thanks for the pics.
Now onto the serious stuff...Those chips at the Wagon & Horses. Did you get the recipe?
And what's all this about liking passageways?
Hope they're not the 'back' type!
