Day out in Cambridge City ( with pics + vids )

Finally a break in the UK weather has allowed us the chance for a quick day out .

Cambridge is about an hour and a half drive from our home in the UK so here we go ,

We head off to approach the city from the eastern corner parking at the Babraham park and ride ,, £2.50p each free to park the car which is under constant live CCTV , pretty good value a 20 min bus ride into the city .

We arrive in Drum street and walk through this beautiful park called Christs pieces to King Street

Next we decide to go for the hop on bus tour complete with the punting option so we walk through to St Andrews street to board the bus ,, whilst we wait I take a couple of pics of Christ,s college were not allowed inside as exams going on today but here are a couple of pics

The beautiful old entrance doors to the college gardens

A peek through to the gardens before I was ushered out hmmmmm

Anyway Jans tugging me arm its time to get on the bus tour but before we do one last pic of Andrews street / Sidney street junction

BTW hope your enjoying the pics from me new camera

Ok we got our tickets £23 each including a punt up the river and we can hop on and off this bus as often as we like all day ,, so climb upstairs with us sit back and enjoy the ride for a few minutes ,, as its Sunday we access roads that are normally closed

We have been right round the circuit got off the bus in Silver street for a punt up the river Cam ,, here are a few shots I took from the boat which travels up behind some of the most famous colleges in the UK .

    Our starting point

    The Bridge of Sigh's

Imagine living here and being able to walk out your back door on a sunny evening with a bottle of something and having a lazy punt up the river

Ok before we get back on the bus a small video of our punt ,, what a multicultural lot we was too we had 5 Italians in the front ,, 2 Moldovans in the middle a Thai and a wannabe in the back ,, happy punting !

Back on the bus we stop at the market square for our lunch , going into Aunties Tea room 2 fantastic prawn /salmon salads + a couple of diet cokes £20 79p all in , very good value, sorry lost those pics , but this little round church is in the near vicinity

Back on the bus and we travel out to the American cemetery , we will go in next time we are getting short of time , still lots to see .

Back to the other side on the bus now these are some old Dutch style homes , apparently when they were originally built they had no windows ?? doubt they eat much curry

Well its time to get the last park and ride bus back , the days are never long enough , hope you enjoyed it, BTW today a week later its raining and 10 degrees ,, normal service resumed . Cheers all

Britain is a beautiful Country, I like to take written cheap shots at it sometimes, but in reality, much like my own Country, I am just said to see it turn out like it has in the last 20-30 years.

I could spend a month in the museums in and around London.

Nice pictures Nigel. It all looks so clean and free of litter. I bet Jan was glad to see a bit of sun. I never saw any until 2 days before my departure.

    Some lovely colours there..
But , I just don't get Cambridge , In fact I hate the place .
Everywhere looks the same, It's like the repeated backdrop to a cartoon -whacky races or something ..., a churche - a college - a windswept flat playing field -a church - etc ..
Those cyclists are also a menace , I almost got knocked over a few times , then they shout abuse and ride off ; too rude even to stop for a punch up .

That Bus Video is good , but needed to start as you boarded ,as I suspect there was some very sharp elbows involved to bag that upper front seat ,

    Now the video punt ride
    well ,,,,,,,
that blackie sure didn't like the look of you !
was you innocently munching a banana as you filmed or something ?

    Nice place Cambridge Nigel.

Good job with the photographs and video takes.

The system won't let me green you, but all the same
well done. The city itself is steeped with special history
some of the buildings (like Oxford) are quite amazing.

The academic benefits to those who make good use of
    the same are priceless.
All the women take their blouses off
And the men all dance on the polka dots
    It's closing time !

Lived in a small village outside Cambridge called West Wratting. One street & two pubs. Cambridge was always so attractive for the week-ends, especially in summer.

Thanks for the story Nigel and Jan....I love to look at the architectural styles of 'ye olde England'. I truly must take a trip to discover my roots before I get old and dont give a f... about travel anymore. There is some point in life when all ya want to do is sit and watch tv or gaze at something and drink coffee then go to lay down. Your pics remind me I need to holiday in England before much longer

At one point in history council tax/poll tax was based upon how many windows your house had.
    That might explain it.

great photo's Nigel and Cambridge is a delightful place.
It would be even more delightful if they moved it to a place with better weather, how about Australasia ?

Unfortunately I have to wait till I get back to Blighty before I can see the pics. They won't show for me here. The vids show and so do CM's pics of topless protesters, so I'm a bit confused as to the logic here.
