I think the correct word is crop, not cut. What program are you using to re-size the image? There should be an option along side re-size saying crop

I'm using the in-build program that came with the printer. Theres the box thats has crop written on top of it, the same box says preview.

when I click on it the vert and horiz lines appear ready for the crop. the cross hairs appear on the mouse and then I cant progress from there. ??

    Jeez so close with this.

Without seeing what your seeing its hard to tell but on the crop screen there should be a button to click on to accept the crop, or maybe a right click with the mouse.

Keep trying you'll get there in the end

Are you cropping before or after the scan?

Try just scanning the image as normal, open it from my documents and crop it there.

You can install an image processing software like the free IrfanView and use the scan option.
IrfanView allows you to select an option for file format. For pictures you use JPG. If you want to safe text you can use black and white GIF to get much smaller files. I think you can imbed GIF like JPG on TeakDoor.

You could just cheat like I did by placing your old photos on a table then taking a picture of them with your digital camera to post in the normal way. The result was not too bad considering the low quality of the original pictures :

I saw a device for sale that reads / scans, the old photos negative
Anyone know if they do they produce a better image than scanning the photo?

Only the good and expensive ones are OK, good in quality and easy to handle. Forget about the cheap models and rather scan the photo.

Well, I know how it is.....fooking progress. To load all my pics on to TD I use ACDsee which I think you can download free from the net. Very easy program to use and will do everything you want from croping to resizing your picture to the required no of bites. Just scan your pics to your hard drive, load them into ACDsee and the rest is just roses. I mean, if I can use it it has to be easy !

If you have a half decent camera, but a cheap and crappy scanner, then Bangyai's suggestion will probably give you the best results.

You could just get some tracing paper, copy the original photos with a pencil, colour them in and post them off to TD. Someone there'll be kind enough to post them, I'm sure.

You do know how to use a pencil, don't you Tel?

The scanner will automatically crop unless you have checked the 'I am a fucking retard' box.
