Why can't I post attachments?

In the lower left corner of this page, a small box called 'Posting Rules' says 'You may not post attachments'.

An answer would be nice.

I think it's because attachments can contain viruses

Not possible to "attach" a document such a MS Word or the like.

If you have a .jpg format of the document it can be uploaded to your gallery and posted as a picture.

Also, you can open the document on your PC, then copy and paste text into a post. Note there is a maximum character limit on size of posts but I don't know what the max size is.
