B0b is not my name, it's a hexadecimal number.

Correct. Somewhere there's an old thread about why posters chose their nicks.

    DrB0b is

    1) The muppet dog Rowlf. All forum users are automatically muppets.

    2) Dr Robert Oppenheimer, father of the Atomic Bomb (I am become death, the destroyer of worlds). This is a picture of Oppenheimer after death, killing God by smashing his head in with a planet.

    3) The hexadecimal number B0B, referring to an Internet RFC describing a protocol problem which let me and my friends autohack 10's of thousands of computers when we were lads. The small b is because of studlycaps, A mILdLy AmUsIng nEt fAd Of 20 yEArs Ag0.

    4) D.R. A character in 2000AD, Short for Diminished Responsibility

    5) Bob, a Blackadder character whose name is always pronounced in an amusing manner. Amusing to me, anyway.

b0B then, not B0b, otherwise you lose that studlycaps angle

Good to see you're as well-informed as ever, BF

StudlyCaps (or perhaps StUdLyCaPs, also known as StickyCaps) is a variation of CamelCase in which the individual letters in a word (or words) are capitalized and not capitalized, either at random or in some pattern.

    [edit] History

According to the Jargon File "ThE oRigiN and SigNificaNce of thIs pRacTicE iS oBscuRe."[1] It appears to have been popularized among adolescent users during the BBS and early WWW eras of online culture, as a form of rebellion against the traditional rules of capitalization. Unlike the use of all lowercase letters, which suggests laziness or efficiency as a motivation, StudlyCaps requires additional effort to type, either holding and releasing the Shift key with one hand while hunting-and-pecking, or alternately pressing one Shift key or the other while touch typing.[citation needed] The iNiQUITY BBS software based on Renegade had a feature to support this automatically.[citation needed]
    [edit] Use

It may perform a similar social function as the reduced legibility of the highly stylised script commonly used in graffiti.[citation needed] The overt defiance of rules distinguishes it from most forms of CamelCase which, despite their defiance of traditional typographic rules for language, are noteworthy for their adherence to authority-established standards specifying which letters are to be capitalized and which are not.[citation needed]

B1ff is type of internet slang that was created in the early days of the Internet by groups who felt they were being watched by government officials or corporations. This was a major step towards full 1337 (Leet); however, they originally had different purposes. B1ff, which only changes words only enough so a program looking for certain words doesn't find them, whereas 1337 was created to prevent non-1337 humans from reading text.
During the early days of internet gaming, a new side of b1ff took a significant rise, when scripts edited the content of instant chat conversations. Today, however, most censoring scripts can compensate for the letter-number replacement. Thus, b1ff has mainly evolved into 1337, a more introverted language which, although it does include letter-number replacement, also includes letter mixing (e.g. "pr0n"), similar-sound substitution (e.g. "h4xx" for "hack"), 'building' a letter from multiple characters (e.g. x from ><), and the invention of new words as a substitute for common words.
