What are the Rules on the News Forum?

As the title says, "What are the rules on News forum". My opinion was that it was for posting and discussing issues raised in the news and that fundamentally the rules for discussions were similar to Issues. That is, links, evidence, citations, whatever and that disruption, trolling, and "it's true because I say it's true" type posts were not allowed in there.

I ask because the News forum is turning into another godawful mess like the issues forum. Some particularly disruptive posts do get moved or deleted but the majority of them stand and only serve to disrupt the threads. Quite a few of us come to this forum for the news and issues discussions and it's a shame to see the mess so many of them have become because of the actions of a tiny number of posters. All it would take to make them more tolerable would be enforcement of the forum rules.
The Above Post May Contain Strong Language, Flashing Lights, or Violent Scenes.

^ News is a bit of an anomaly, really. It should be dealt with in a similar manner to Issues, but it's such a large and unwieldy forum that the mods who are supposed to look after it either don't have the time or have long since realised that trying to mod the place is futile.

Personally, I think most threads in there are a waste of bandwidth, and if there is a particular topic that people want to discuss, it should either go in Issues or one of the Thai/Asian forums depending upon the subject.

    But that isn't my decision.

How about setting up a new forum? "French Faggot Gets Owned Again"?

disagree. News forum is a fun place, not as serious as issues nor as moronic as MKP.

The idea of having to post a link to back up an opinion on a news article is ridiculous. This is the kind of big brother attitude that needs to be nipped in the bud before it does serious harm to to free exchange of views here.

Yes, it is. That's why I didn't ask for that. What I'm asking is that when people say things like "the newspapers said in 2007 that..." or "Kiddyporn Turdsak said..." a link should be posted. What's wrong with that?

An opinion wouldn't need a link, but if your basing that opinion on something other than what has been posted a link to blackgangs spam box wouldn't really suffice.

I take your point but it sounds like a nightmare to mod. The mod(s) would have to actually read each post to differentiate between "I think that" and "the daily mail says that".

    What Marmite said.

There are none. I believe the only sub forum having written rules is Issues. Application of the rules by mods is another question.

What's the point of that if, like you said, nobody is actually looking after it?

Hang on. I thought you lot were moaning that the modding was too lax in there?

I guess we'll just ignore the hoi poloi as usual...
